Activity Forums Apple Final Cut Pro Legacy Frame editing

  • Posted by Joe Schubert on March 7, 2011 at 6:44 pm

I recently saw a film that was edited in Final Cut. I had a chance to listen to the editor speak. He mentioned a cut that he did for a scene that involved cutting out every other frame. Does anyone know how to achieve this?

    Thanks!

    Dave,
With a lot of painstaking work. Many cuts. It took a long time.

What, there’s not a plugin for that?

I have a system, it has stuff in it, and stuff hooked to it. I have a camera, it can record stuff. I read the manuals, and know how to use this stuff and lots of other stuff too.

Another cool trick is to cut the frames, select every other one, and drag them in front of the cuts-where-they-belong…make sense? It’s very nifty.

    Should be: 1.2.3.4.5.6
    Changes to: 2.1.4.3.6.5

    Hey that does sound cool!
But part of the question (as small time as it sounds) is if there is a keyboard shortcut to select every other frame in a sequence.

Nope. Just grab your blade tool and zoom in as far as you can. Click away.

Cutting every second frame sound like speeding the clip up to 200% and turning frame blending off no?

    Or write a macro.

    Dave,
Shhhhh…. I just read about a script called dotheeditforme.

Funny thing. This is something at least two of the linear systems I worked on could do without building a user key list ripple.
Set the edit duration, then leave the number of frames (+ forward,- reverse) to skip in the scratchpad, and hit ‘auto-animate’. Voila’, skip frame animation is generated while you sit there enjoying your coffee and Snickers.

To get rid of one in two frames you only need to speed the clip up 200% and no Frame Blending.
But you do not explain what you want achieve.
You want just to get rid of the frames?
Do you want to leave a hole/black on the place?
Do you want to replace the frame?
You can play with the Strobe and the Blink filters.
