You could get some black / white footage of paint splats (video copilot has them in the riot gear efx package) and use that as a track matte for your video footage. So it would “splat” your footage onto the screen.

[Steve A] “and later copy those clips on that timeline and paste them to a new uncompressed 8 bit sequence for online, will they be back at full 720×486 size and resolution?”

No. You will need to online your footage with the material from the master. Do a search for “online”and “media manager” and you should find what you need.

My 2 cents but I think HD is overkill for anything that’s going to be streamed on the web. It will have to be compressed down anyway. Bob is completely right though. You are asking the wrong people. Find out what your final deliver specs are and go from there.

If it were me I’d shoot anamorphic on digibeta.

Just a heads up. If you get quirky lines in your WMV or stalling out, try exporting to animation or H.264 at best quality BEFORE making the wmv. It fixes a lot of woes over here.

July 7, 2009 at 6:23 pm in reply to: Dolby 5.1 layback to HDCAM SR

[Mike Kahn] “So I will get, say, 6 channels of audio, place them in the sequence and lay off as if it was nothing more then 6 discreet channels of audio?”

Yep. Check your delivery specs for the channel assignment. Usually these days it’s:

    Ch.1 L Ch.2 R Ch.3 C Ch.4 Sub Ch.5&6 LS/RS ch.7&8 LT/RT

But some clients like it different.
Also, you might need to change your sequence settings for more audio channels and well as your device control preset settings.

    Best,

Okay. If you want to do this in ae Just follow the advice already given. Either interpret the footage to loop or else you’ll need to make a bunch of duplicate layers. You can speed up the footage using time remapping. This will vary the pitch of the audio as well.

Nle = non linear editor. Fcp, premiere, etc.

Ae is NOT editing software and is not built as such. That the basic answer to all your gripes. It’s like getting mad at your plumber for not knowing how to make spaghetti for you.

There’s a Checkbox in your sequence setting for anamorphic and there’s also a checkbox in the browser for your footage.

All NTSC is 720 x 486 regardless of whether it’s 16×9 or 4×3. It’s just a matter of how you are displaying the picture. You can capture at the regular NTSC D1 preset. If you need to view your material @ widescreen there’s a checkbox in the browser for that. When I work with anamorphic I just capture like usual and set my external monitor to display it widescreen.

[Richie Tovell] “It’d be pretty much impossible to do all those eddit’s manually firstly there’s probably 50 or 100 cuts,”

Impossible? Not really. It’s more of a cut/paste situation in your NLE. All you are doing is looping the footage at a faster and faster rate. The audio is another story. I’m a video editor so I can’t tell you how to do it, but I’m sure it’s pretty simple in protools or whatever audio app you have.
