We have some archival material that’s uncompressed 601 NTSC. If we edit that onto a 720×480 DV sequence for the offline, and later copy those clips on that timeline and paste them to a new uncompressed 8 bit sequence for online, will they be back at full 720×486 size and resolution? Or would we need to re-lay them from the original master clips?

In other words, does the fact that they were once on the DV timeline change the clips and their relationship to their master clip source?

    Thanks.

You will just have to remove attributes on the uncompressed media when it’s pasted into the uncompressed timeline. It seems a very strange workflow though to be editing uncompressed media in a DV timeline as you described. I can’t really see the point of it. Why not just edit in an uncompressed sequence? There us no offline advantage editing uncompressed in a DV sequence.

    All the best,

Thanks for the quick reply, Tom.

99.9% of the movie was shot DVCAM and we are offlining in anamorphic DV with FW800 drives. We will eventually upres to HD for online, at which point we want to get max res out of this uncompressed archival material, rather than downres to DV then up again.

We have done a number of moves on stills in Motion, at HD res which we are also incorporating into the DV timeline. We’re assuming we can re-lay these on the HD timeline and see them at full res. We’ve created these moves using a 1080p preset, figuring this will translate best to both DV for offline and 1080i for online (choosing progressive since the SD and HD have different field orders). Does that sound workable to you?

    Thanks again.

No. You will need to online your footage with the material from the master. Do a search for “online”and “media manager” and you should find what you need.
