Great, Bouke. Glad to see your product is so versatile.

The Toolshed is known for crafting some fine products, IMHO.

    Ken,

I hope you can hear from someone that the 355 is truly bi-directional. The newer Pioneers seem to have taken away the ability to “talk” with Avid systems.

Dan Montgomery’s products are great; I used them long ago when they were the only real game in town. Their new products look like winners, too. It’s just that Media Log is included with Avid. 😉

Yes, the Pioneer is only -R.

I’m not familiar with that Sony. A friend of mine has the Sony RDR-GX300, and it is bi-directional.

Just because a unit has FW doesn’t mean it’s bi-directional. I have other recorders, and they don’t play nice with my Avid systems.

I just sold a Philips DVR985 on eBay (for a paltry amount) that had firewire but also had and component inputs and outputs. Another feature: Audio record level adjustments and VU meters. The only drawback for me is that it was a +R machine.

I recently bought a Pioneer DVR-533H, once again on eBay, that has firewire I/O and a hard drive. You should be able to find similar.

I don’t go back and forth between AXP and FCP very often. When I do, Automatic Duck makes it a breeze. You may want to check them out here:

Sometimes, it makes sense to spend a little on these kinds of things so you can concentrate on editing. My opinion, of course.

Yes, it can. I have done it a lot with my nx9600 (to a Dell 24″). What I need to try is the same setup with this laptop to see if it drops frames, etc., when editing DVCPRO HD.

Have you made the windows smaller again and saved your workspace (Save Current)? Avid should remember the view the way you like it next time you open trim.

There was some discussion a while back about this on the Avid Community Xpress Pro Studio User Forums.

Do a search for “Avid DVD green line” and see if that matches what you are experiencing. I think it may have been associated with your version of Squeeze (there have been updates to this program since) and the version of QuickTime you might have.

I’m running the lastest versions of Squeeze and AXP, and I don’t see the green lines on my material.
