I haven’t seen the ones you are talking about. I watched all the ones for Studio Complete that went in depth on FX, Avid DVD and Avid PT LE. They were dry but very informative.
I’ve seen some of the training DVDs available on eBay and other outlets from time to time.

I think they are very helpful in that you can apply (or watch them apply) the applications to real world situations and video examples. If you put the DVDs on a player and monitor and place that beside your Avid monitor, you can play along with your own footage and get the hang of it. Have you been to the Avid site and tried out Alex?

To begin editing right away, do you have access to the tutorial footage that came with the install disks? It’s hardly feature length, but might get you by until you can acquire more.

Try the HP outlet.

I have used them as has many others on the Avid L-2 users group. There are great deals to be had there.

I know of no other cards that work consistantly and without problems. If others have experience, please chime in…
The thing about Avid hardware “requirements” is that they are not requirements at all. You can go and build a system, or buy one off the shelf and hope that it works. Even tinker with it until the (Creative) Cows come home.
But, if you will purchase or build yourself an “approved” system, one where the components have been thoroughly tested by Avid, have proven reliable, and will be supported by Avid (meaning someone will assist you over the phone or e-mail in getting your system working). Then, you can spend your time editing. I assume you have paying clients…if so, the time you spend your time editing versus the time you spend tinkering or attempting to save a dollar here and there will result in:
* more money in your pocket
* more opportunity for successful projects with your clients
* fewer distractions and anxiety worrying about WHEN your system is going to crashYou know, I actually enjoy tinkering under the hood with computers and all things electronic. But when it comes to my role as an editor, I want to concentrate on editing.

What I meant to say was “one of the approved” instead of “the correct”.

You really need the correct video card and the approved driver. See the list and get one of these:

I don’t think it has changed since then.

Have you read this document?

It describes the workflow you need to follow to make P2 media work with Avid.

320 X 240 is roughly half size; you could try 960 X 540 and see if that works for you (assuming 1920 X 1080 from your timeline).
Otherwise, Sorenson has some presets for web, iPod, etc., that should work well.
