I know of no other cards that work consistantly and without problems. If others have experience, please chime in…

The thing about Avid hardware “requirements” is that they are not requirements at all. You can go and build a system, or buy one off the shelf and hope that it works. Even tinker with it until the (Creative) Cows come home.

But, if you will purchase or build yourself an “approved” system, one where the components have been thoroughly tested by Avid, have proven reliable, and will be supported by Avid (meaning someone will assist you over the phone or e-mail in getting your system working). Then, you can spend your time editing. I assume you have paying clients…if so, the time you spend your time editing versus the time you spend tinkering or attempting to save a dollar here and there will result in:

* more money in your pocket
* more opportunity for successful projects with your clients
* fewer distractions and anxiety worrying about WHEN your system is going to crash

You know, I actually enjoy tinkering under the hood with computers and all things electronic. But when it comes to my role as an editor, I want to concentrate on editing.

Why not just try it with your current GeForce 7300GT card. The majority of users have success with these Nvidia based consumer cards. Just make sure you have the correct Nvidia driver to your Avid version & all should be well. No need to rush out to spend another $1000+ on some Quadro card if what you have works for your needs.
