Just of the phone with Sony support.

IF you are shooting with a Sony PMW-F3 and you have the newest version of the firmware (version 1.2) and you use a picture profile Your old clip browser will likely not work.

You need to update the Sony XDcam Browser. Version 2.0 from Sony’s Microsite.
    https://pro.sony.com/bbsc/ssr/micro-xdcam/resource.downloads.bbsccms-assets-micro-xdcam-downloads-XDCAMSoftwareDownload.shtml#apps

The old clip browser will no longer work on PCs (maybe Mac as well), You need the Xdcam browser (Not clip browser). None of this affects the actual recording or files disks etc, just that the clip browser will no longer play the files back.
Save yourself the minor heart attack.

    Rich,
I have no good news for you. Sound like a serious issue with either the main board or onboard memory. I think you would best be served by contacting Sony unless you know an engineer that is wiz on the EX3.

Usually having to remove batteries/power for long periods of time after a lockup of any electrical device points to memory getting ‘stuck’ and maintaining voltage, it could also be a pretty nasty board issue.

    Good Luck

March 18, 2011 at 7:16 pm in reply to: Crop factor using 2/3 inch lens on EX3

I think this is what you are looking for.

When going to a half inch sensor (ex3) from a 2/3″ lens (b4, sony mount) You use a 1.3 multiplier. So your standard Canon or Fuji HD zoom lens 7.6-137mm (7.6×18) you get the equivalent of a 10.34mm x 186mm, in terms of a 35mm camera system. This would apply for putting a Fuji ACM 18 or 21 adapter on your camera and mounting a “pro video lens”.

If you want the 35mm equivalent from a half inch sensor you use a 5.4 multiplier. The EX3 standard zoom lens is 5.8mm which is the equivalent of a 31mm lens (in 35mm terms)

    Hope that helps

Craig, Thanks for the Rapid response.
Target – as always a moving target, I’m looking for options.
Most of the time I fedex hard drives to my clients, Occasionally they need faster turn around. Be it for computer screening, web screening or even immediate editing.

H264 has worked well in the past, I’m just looking for software with some output flexibility. Variable output resolutions, and compressions schemes. Quicktime was an example.

I was looking at an AJA HDSDI – Component analog box (also an HDSDI pass through) I’m still looking at the various boxes, I don’t mind camera add-ons at all. My concern with all of these boxes is field durability and power. I’d rather the system run of an internal battery rather than my D-Tap.

    Hope that helps,

No extended warranty, I bought it almost 3 years ago.
Thanks to everyone for the comments.

I love the ex3 and I own PDW-350 (and conisdering a 700), I disagree with the Consumer tag for an EX3.
A broken connector on any camera would cost you some $$, especially if you end up replacing a board and paying an engineer. That one board is not well designed, should probably be mounted with a right angle connector, but the BNC works great, and I was able to continue shooting because of the camera’s multiple output choices. Flipped the monitor to Composite and went BNC out, clients got a little less pretty picture, but the shoot didn’t miss a bit. That alone puts the camera much closer to Professional than consumer.

    Craig,
Big Thanks, I’m going to send it away as soon as the work slows down. Do you have the contact info for shipping the camera to sony?
I’m an east coaster (DC area).

I sent a request to sony.com/professional, but their reply time is sometimes questionable.
    Again, Many thanks,

October 15, 2009 at 11:50 pm in reply to: Better EX3 settings for Greenscreen ?

My bad, typo. Green Screen was actually 40 IRE across the board not 30. typically my client uses the quantel editing system, they can key just about anything. I’m just trying to make everything easier.

Thanks for all of the feedback, I’m just interested in Gamma curves specifically for greenscreen. if anyone has a favorite gamma curve/setting that they would like to share.
