Jay, Wow, I should have named this thread “How to be a competent business man”. Oh wait, I didn’t.
Of course you do the job well and finish on time, That is called being a professional. So is staying on task.
Ron, Thanks I hadn’t considered the 720 aspect, but some clients may prefer the lower res. Thanks.

I’ve matched an EX3 with a Cine Alta F-900, but only through the use of a Paintbox and the Fujinon 2/3″ lens adapter and identical lenses. I would not attempt with the ex1 because they don’t accept a paintbox.
We matched Fujinon lenses, The closest color match appeared shooting 1080 60i on all cameras, EX3 picture profiles turned off and I began painting from there.
The Clip values all had to be programmed to match the F-900
The EX3 is about 3 1/2 to 4 stops faster than the F-900. So the Depth of field will not even be close without ND filtration or a 35mm adapter to replace the 2/3″ adapter but then you have the differences in lensing.
I’m happy with the results, I’ll post the EX3 vs Cine alta as soon as the show airs.

With any Fluid head I’d pay special attention to the weight limit.
On such a small tripod you may have a few pounds of sway, but generally the fluid heads are pretty accurate with their limitations.
It may not affect your panning, but a full vertical tilt up or down could slip and drop your camera or burst something inside the head. You can find great used tripods – Sachtler Videop 18P – former news tripods that will be much better with the heavy load.

Nikon. Absolute best bang for the buck. I run a Letus adapter on my EX3. Between ebay and a few new purchases I’ve got an entire series of 35mm lenses for under $2000. 28mm, 35mm, 50mm, 85mm & 105mm all between F2.5 and F2.0.
Are they F1.4, No, but I shoot most of my interviews etc at F2.8 So they are acceptable, especially for the price. IF you have about $3500 to spend. Check out RP Lens – Great but a little over my price range.
You need to do some serious homework and research before buying. Nikon has a pretty crappy way of identifying the lenses. There are hundreds of Nikon Nikkor lenses and they can be night and day different. Check the serial numbers or handle the lenses before purchase.
Hope that helps,

I felt so alone… I thought I was the only one…
Yay Support Group.Older Model EX1s have been giving me all kinds of problems with SDHC cards. Transcend (Class 6) 16GB cards that will not be recognized (incorrect media) or do not register at all. I’m in the DC area and I’ve run into this on 4 separate cameras. I actually returned some memory that may have been functional.
I will post the serial numbers shortly, but we were on a 3 camera shoot and the MxM adapter would only function on one camera (the newest)http://www.killianthered.com

Oh Dear God, no Gaffers tape. The first summer day you’d have nasty tape mess on your mic.
Sennheiser (Sony and Sanken as well) makes these cheap rubber sleeves that wrap around the mic to fit into the holders $4 or $5. The bike innertube is a great idea, I’ve never tried that.

Big thanks Guys, I think the Blackmagic converter may be a good permanent solution. For this shoot I’ll probably run the analog component and place an order for the SDI-HDMI converter.
This would probably let me adapt the Cine Alta and some other HDSDI cameras to run onto ridiculously large “client” monitors in video village.
Thanks for the Super rapid response. You guys are like customer service, Sony should pay your salaries.
Thanks,

Thanks Craig,
I’m sure my seller shipped the wrong card. I’ve already tried the formatting the card twice. I’ll return the cards.
Many thanks for the rapid response.Joe Tyler

I shoot a ton of car footage for BMW. The bottom line is 24p is its own look and not much will come close. It visually closer to the film look because the frame rate is the same. Blur, motion jutter, etc.
When shooting cars, most people would aim for something a little more crips. If you love the 24p look shoot 24p, leave the lens as wide as possible and have the shutter set very high (near 1/500th equiv). That might reduce the jutter enough for you.
The other option (which is what I do for my clients) is shoot the cars at 30P and have a film filter added in post. That way the editor can dial in the look.
Also with lots of cars and reflective surfaces, I’d recommend a polarizer for the lens. Will reduce glare.
