right, it won’t look any better as HD, but it will help retain some resolution as opposed to just cropping to letter box and stretching it for anamorphic…the hardest thing to do is use SD footage as HD, you need a good hardware converter to remap the pixels and convert color space…
i’m going to look at something and get back to you….do you have access to an SR deck, or an 1800?

does that send 29.97 out of the Kona?

are you editing SD, or are you upconverting the 4:3 letterbox to HD?

if you’re staying SD, there is really no way that will look good…you are basically stretching the letterbox vertically, and it will never display cleanly…

    what is your final destination?

the need is for when projects come in with multiple frame rates, and not having time to have to render everything to play realtime…and since everything that plays out goes out as 29.97, it seems easier to convert before editing. Another reason is that when editing in 23.98, our plasmas for the clients don’t display 23.98 via component realtime….so we have to make a 29.97 sequence and drag the source clips in the sequence so the producers can view it and make decisions…

our broadcast monitors playback 23.98 no problem, but the uneducated producers can’t stand the flicker, so we’re monitoring it at 29.97 anyway….

SO…can it be done cleanly before FCP sees the footage?

you need to make sure the P2 footage was correctly copied with the directories in tact…make sure you have the Contents folder and the lastclip.txt in the folder for each card

7.7 is average…9 was peak…too much? it looked great…i only did a 15 min test chunk, so i can only hope the full 80 minutes won’t be too big to fit everything.

cool…i’ll try that, as well as try it on the BM, although as we know the control panel is definitely different between AJA and BM
