Thanks Craig for that lightning quick response, after a bit more searching I found this thread and was wondering about this response about 5 posts down from Ian Cook:

    https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/142/872936

“The HDV L+T plugin will convert to a selectable ProRes codec but there is no prefs menu to change codecs for EX.”

So if I wanted L&T to convert to ProRes via his method, what L&T plug-in would I need to install and enable in the L&T preference pane?

Have you tried the “Forward Delete” command, I have it mapped to the ampersand button, and it “closes the gap”, except of course there has to be something there, not a gap…

Red Rocket is not a driver, it is a $5000 expansion card, if you don’t have it, RocketCine will not work. You need either RedCine-X if you are on a PC or RedAlert for Mac. RedAlert for Mac includes RedRushes which will transcode to DNxHD 36 or other versions, as will RedCine-X. Red post workflow is complex and requires basic understanding of things like debayering, proprietary codecs and workflows, and which codec and workflow is suited to which finishing format. Good luck.

Also notice that unless there is a sequence in the browser window the same thing happens – no canvas or timeline windows

File> New Project, or File> Open> already saved project

FCP, unlike Avid, will run without an actual project being open, but canvas and timeline will not appear until one is open

Get an eSata express34 card for that expansion slot on the left side of your MBP and use eSata drives (as in, 2) to back up the raw camera files, and transcode the ProRes files to the GRaid. That way the transcodes will be on a striped RAID drive with faster bandwidth for editing, and the raw files won’t be on a striped RAID drive where if one of the drives fails, you lose everything.

Click on the left v1 button in your video track so it’s not connected to the right v1 button

“What part of 4K does not tell you souped up hardware?
Hell what part of 2K does not say ” I need more” ”

Yes I get it. I was at the RedUser thing at the Rio, and the Aja guy with the Prince Valiant haircut was showing off how he could playback the proxies at full framerate, no stuttering. Then I peeked behind the curtain and saw the 12 drive RAID array, and listened to his spiel about how the Kona card allowed what I was seeing to happen. My point is, your average reader reads these posts from guys about cutting with proxies who never mention their Kona cards and RAID 5’s. Then your average reader starts trying to cut proxies on their MacBook Pro and goes ok, WTF are these guys talking about. Not me of course..yeah right.
