Hello to all. First time user so please forgive all the stupid questions in advance.
Using red for the first time.
I have downloaded RocketcineX1740 and am trying to import my Red media.
Step 4 in the Avid step by step guide tells me to choose DNxHD 36 but it does not come up as an option.
I have gone to the Avid site and cannot download this Codec always sends me to pg 404 not found…
I am at a loss any help would be appreciated.
Also every time I launch Rocketcine it says I do not have Red Rocket(the correct driver installed) I have just installed Red rocket and I keep getting the same message.
Also is Metafuze only for PC’s?
I realize I sound like a total novice but I have been editing for years I’m just an old dog trying to learn new tricks. I long for the days when I only had to worry about if AVR 27 was good enough for broadcast.
Some people might still remember that.
Anyhow thanks for any help and please keep your answers in plain simple English.
    Nick

Red Rocket is not a driver, it is a $5000 expansion card, if you don’t have it, RocketCine will not work. You need either RedCine-X if you are on a PC or RedAlert for Mac. RedAlert for Mac includes RedRushes which will transcode to DNxHD 36 or other versions, as will RedCine-X. Red post workflow is complex and requires basic understanding of things like debayering, proprietary codecs and workflows, and which codec and workflow is suited to which finishing format. Good luck.

RedRocket is indeed an acceleration card and RocketCine-X will not work without it.

RedAlert is a thing of the past, though, Joe. As is RedRushes, and RedCine (non -X).

And RedCine-X is actually both Mac and PC! And its latest builds will create MXF mediafiles directly, without the need to import into Avid anymore. RedCine-X is the application that is meant to replace any and all older incarnations of Red software.

RedCine-X works very similar to RocketCine-X. You can open clips into a bin, then export from that bin after creating an export setting. The most recent builds of both the Mac and the PC version allow you to create Avid MXF files immediately (like MetaFuze does). But you can also choose to export as Quicktime. As long as the Avid codecs are installed (avid.com/codec), that should provide you with the option to convert to QT’s that may be fast imported (you’d need to also generate an ALE somehow, though, otherwise you won’t have tape ID’s).

    Indeed, MetaFuze is PC only.

If your footage was shot with the latest version of the Red camera (with the Mysterium sensor), note that MetaFuze will not correctly convert the colors for that. RedCine-X does.

RedCine-X is early beta, according to Red. This means that there may be some issues/bugs/annoyances. A lot of support info can be found on the Reduser.net boards.

Important to know is how to set the debayer options. It may be tempting to select Full Premium, but without a Rocket card installed, that is going to take forever.

The speed of your machine and drives matter much. R3D decoding is a pretty processor intensive task.

    Thank you Job,
After downloading Rushes and alert I am now downloading cine-x. I am just trying to get an off-line done for a 30 sec spot. Only about 20 minutes off footage. I know it will come back to haunt
me when I take this footage in wrong but I need to start editing asap. Hope to learn from the many mistakes I will be making.
As always a little better planning in pre-pro would save me a lot of grief in post. We obviously were not set up for the Red work flow.
Once again thanks for your response,
    Nick
