This effects can be achieved by using expressions.
For example ,you want to parened layerA to layerB,
Add following expression to the position property of layerA;

I think that DV codec is not very good but good enough for outputting to a DV tape.If you want to switch between programs,Animation codec can be the better choice.DV code can only be accepted when you at last wanted to output you video.

1.draw the shape in 3dsmax
2.bevel profile
3.subtract some part to make the hole by “boolean”
4.create a raytrace metal material
5.create the lights for the sence

Sorry ,It seems I did not catch you idea.
Well,If what you want is a “film junk” effect,maybe I could give some other sugestion.
Some plugins suchas “Film damage”can supply you with such effect.But since you hope to avoid having to buy anything,You can create such effect handly.
1.adjust the Levels and Hue/Saturation.make your clip have less levels and be paler.
2.draw a secquence of damaged film which is make up for many some mussy lines and dots.You can create it with your AE or PS or Flash .This effect can be downloaded from many Flash website .Here is one of them:

you can delete the numbers and get the film junk clip in Flash.
3.compose the two clips together in AE,adjust the effects.****************************
