thanks so much for the reply- this problem is driving me crazy!
i tried to change the prefs (i’m using OS X on a mac G5) but everytime i launch ae7 it changes the prefs back to the 00 values.
do you have any idea why, or what can be done?

thanks for the responses!
i’m still having a bit of trouble…
yeah, i’m compositing in AfterEffects- i’ve got the still of the city background. all i need is the car with an alpha and it’s shadow.
what should the tag settings be to make the street ‘invisible’ except for the car’s shadow? and does the car need a tag, other than ‘object buffer’?

i used the ‘stoke’ tool- of all obvious choices. gives control over stroke width, and you can stroke multiple lines on the same object. voila!
