Tread very, very carefully here, especially if you have a version of Encore before 2.0. Even if you have Encore 2.0…

Also note that if the original assets are gone, deleting the contents of the Sources folder will cause everything to be offline until you relink to the original assets, if they are still available.

Safest course of action is to do a SaveAs of the project, and then do any housecleaning on that version of the project, checking along the way to verify that the project is still intact, but at its smallest possible size. Once you have something that is satisfactory, archive that.

[SkylineAtlanta] “…Adobe’s own documentation states that copy protected replications can only be done from a DLT.”

At the time Encore’s documentation was written, that was probably a true and correct statement.

It’s possible by setting User Operations for the timeline appropriately. User Ops were introduced in Encore 1.5, so as long as you’re at least up to that, you should be able to set this.

It sounds to me that your video display drivers somehow don’t like MPEG-2 encoded video.

Have you tried going to Edit > Preferences > Audio/Video Out and unchecking Automatic in the Video Playback section? After that, quit, relaunch Encore, open your project again and see if you can see your video.

You should create a motion menu that has the entire video you want to play before the “menu” appears, and use the Loop Point menu property to activate the button highlights at the desired timecode.

For part 2, if you have Encore 2.0, you can add button transitions that will take you from the menu to the timeline. You create the transitional video in Premiere or After Effects, and then apply it as a transition to the button.

Encore doesn’t export DDP 2.0 images. If you want to master from Encore, you’ll need a DLT and some tapes.

Got any overrides set in the project?

  • If your processor is fast enough, Encore can encode in close to real-time. I’ve encoded 90 minutes of video in about 100 minutes on my PIV 3.0 GHz system, not exactly the fastest kid on the block. Other software encoders can offer similar performance.

Otherwise, you’ll want to look into a hardware MPEG-2 compressor ($$$).

What version of Encore are you using?
