Encore keeps rendered motion menu files in the project folder\Sources\Menus.
Not sure what the problem is with the one file you found, but if Encore can play it and other players on your system can’t, there may be a problem with those other players or your system.

All Blu-ray burners are capable of burning to BD-RE (re-writable), so you needn’t worry about that. I’ve only used the LaCie d2 on the Mac, which worked fine with Encore CS3 – but I would expect any of them to work.
Regarding the players, I’ve played them on Panasonic and Sony players (sorry, no model numbers handy), as well as the PS3, which is a fine Blu-ray player – arguably the best. Usually any incompatibility has been a missing firmware update away.

Go to Disc properties and choose the subtitle track you want displayed when the disc plays.
One note: if you have more than one timeline, make sure they have an equal number of subtitle tracks, even if the other timelines don’t have any subtitles.

Encore’s Preview mode may not be handling it correctly. Try burning to a DVD RW, and then test it in a DVD player.

1. You might be able to increase the bit-rate, but you can’t increase the resolution to HD, for instance. DVD-Video does not support high-definition video. Encore CS3 can export HD to Blu-ray; otherwise, it down-samples to standard definition.
If you meant increase the video bit rate, you may be able to do so if you have not already reached the allowable limit for DVD-Video. However, more importantly, general experience is that burned DVDs start having player compatibility issues when you go over 7 Mbps. If your video is transcoded at a lower bit-rate than that, then by all means revert it and choose a higher bit rate.
2. I’m not familiar with the UI that you mention, but last time I authored to DL, I don’t recall seeing a choice for Side 1 or Side 2. Can you post a screenshot?
Regarding the second part of this question, it means selecting what part of your project to change layers at. Layer changes are only from the first layer to the second layer, and never the reverse until you try to access material on the first layer again.
Finally, “manual” in this case is not truly manual – it is manual ONLY if Encore cannot find a suitable break in between separate timelines to place the layer break.

What you want to do is not possible in the DVD-Video format. As a format, it is just not that interactive.

Ulead DVD MovieFactory does not export to Flash.
As to Encore CS3, that’s the idea – the same Encore project can export to DVD, Blu-ray, and Flash.

No, there’s no way to build a menu in Photoshop that automatically links buttons to a timeline.
The Chapter Index feature is what you read about, and it is possible to add the prefixes in Photoshop – but that won’t link the buttons for you (you must select the “Create Chapter Index” command).

That is a tough one…
Have you tried selecting all the subtitle clips, then changing the font in the Subtitle properties? And then change back, if you like.
Does that fix it?
