Are you using a timeline with an end action linked to a static menu?

If it doesn’t happen with DVD+RW then it sounds like an issue with your DVD media.
What brand and type of disc are you burning to? Have you tried a different brand? Are you burning at the slowest possible speed?

OK, that explains it.
In Encore 1.0, VTS (timelines) are written to the disc in the inverse order in which timelines were created. When you press the Next button, the disc goes to the last timeline created.
You can sort of work around this by adding a chapter in the last half second of the timeline. What will (most times) happen is pressing Next brings the viewer to this chapter, and then the timeline end action will execute.
There’s really nothing else you can do about this, except upgrade your version of Encore, in which the problem was corrected.

Also make sure your subpicture layers have no drop shadows, glows, or softness, if you haven’t already.

It is a limitation of the subpicture format in DVD-Video. If you can, avoid using curves when designing subpicture layers.
If you must have the curves, then try also creating a stroke subpicture layer (with a (=2) prefix) and set its opacity to less than the original graphic subpicture opacity. Play around opacities a bit and it should make the jaggies less jarring.

No.
You can press the Title button to bring you to the Title menu, even if you are on a different menu, but if you’re in a menu, pressing the menu button always brings you back to the last playing video track.
This is how the DVD-Video format works.

If it’s freezing during transcoding, then you have a transcoding problem, not a burning problem.
Transcoding problems are usually due to bad codecs on your system.
