Try to scale down the size of the clips that are too large for your frame.

Double click on the clip to put it in the Viewer. Select “Effects Control” tab. Open up the “Motion” setting and adjust the Scale.

Try duplicating the video track and placing the new directly on top of the original. Then use a garbage matte to mask of the screen area. Then make adjustments to the screen to alter the luminance so you can do a luminance key to replace the slides. Might work.

Try applying a Noise Gate filter and adjust the threshold to so that it cuts out the breaths. That should eliminate most of them. The Noise Gate opens, or brings the volume up, only for sounds above a certain level (threshold). Anything below that line it closes, or turns the volume all the way down. Breaths are usually quieter than spoken vocal tones. You can adjust the Release so that it will not cut off “S” at the end of a sentence.

We are using the same, 2010 Mac Pros 2×2.4Ghz Quad-Core Xenon, with 28GB RAM. Everything runs smooth. Make sure to get a CUDA card. We use the NVIDIA Quadro 4000 2048MB. Then you will really be impressed with the real time playback. For basic editing we’ll have an Apple ProRes 422 clip with Chroma/Ultra key, a video clip for the background, Three-Way Color Corrector on both tracks, some scaling and repositioning for both, and a lower-third graphic on top, it all plays back in real time.

We use UltraKey on 80% of our material and we haven’t run into that problem.

Two differences that may help track down the problem;

1. we haven’t used the garbage matt with UltraKey

2. we export directly from PP, not placing it in the ME queue

Have all of the dialog transcribed with timecode. Then have it all translated with the matching timecode. Some services do both at the same time. That will become your references for rough cutting. Then bring in a translator to help you fine tune the edits and to verify the clarity of the message the film is trying to get across.

Match Frame works to replace the missing audio, but we lose all our levels and filter settings.

I would still like to know why this happens.

.png files do not always play well with FCP, especially in the transitions. Try using a .tif file with an alpha channel.

Thanks Morten,
When we converted the projects from CS6 to CC we re-rendered all the previews. Everything was green. We made an export of the main timeline using the previews. All good. We then used Project Manager to archive the project. After project manager finished everything systemically unrendered. You could watch it go clip by clip changing the status from green to red.

Thanks for the replies.

We usually select “Create New Trimmed Project” in Project Manager, that doesn’t give the option of “Include Preview Files”.

It still doesn’t explain why PP CC would unlink the preview files from the original project.
