Matchframe from the sequence to the synced clip. Then, on the SOURCE side, DEselect the V track and hit MatchFrame again.

I use the Gang button for that, which will gang the source monitor with the record monitor. Easier than PIP, to me.

The system with Laserdiscs was EditDroid. Lightworks had a great version running at IBC. And they offer a 50 USD/year subscription model, offering all functionality and all codecs for just that little money. Very compatible with MC and FCP (media, bins, clips). Lots of 3D-features. They still sell the (old) controller as an option. Easy to share projects and media.

Try one out. What I love about it is that it looks nice, and that you can set its shuttle speed to a maximum amount, meaning you can set it to something like 40fps, which is great for scrolling through dialogue while still following what is being said.
However, mine goes unused most days. I’ve been using Avids since 1996 or so, and my right hand is on the mouse and my left is on the keyboard. I need a third hand to operate the Artist Control.

Air is supported, but not with MXO2 Mini, since the mini needs and Express34 slot. I think only the 15/17″ MBP’s have that. My 2009 MBP 17″ 3.06GHz ran MC 5.0 with MXO2 Mini more than fine on a longform project I used it on, when needing to do final tweaks and music editing on location, last year.

If you brought in your sound digitally, with everything set to unity, then your AAF has no levels, other than your mixing decision levels. If they feel the source audio is too low, that would be an issue for the production sound mixer.

I think the thing is that the third party boxes (MXO2 mini and Io Express) don’t have any on-board DNxHD hardware codecs. So you need faster/more processors to cope with the encoding. My best guess is that they just didn’t even test the Z200-series with external I/O. I have an Io Express attached to a (slow, old) XW8400 (2xDC 2.66). I haven’t tried to capture anything with it, though (it’s in my home setup, where I don’t have any decks).
