The default method is Duplicated Field, which discards half of each frame. Both Fields will cause stutters when slowing down interlaced sources. The better options would be Interplolated, Blended Interpolated, or FluidMotion.

Yes. But you get one HBA with the Io Express, so you’d need to purchase the other one separately. There’s a PCI HBA for your workstation and there’s an ExpressCard HBA for laptops. Make sure your MBP is one that has an ExpressCard slot.

I think you will get much more feedback after Tuesday, when MC6 is launched. MC6 will allow you to use a lot of I/O boards from a lot of vendors (Aja, Matrox, Bluefish, Motu). There are many solutions for both towers and laptops.

If you export as QT, you will suffer from gamma shifts. MC6 will solve that (it has native support for ProRes in MXF).

Only if you purchased/upgraded and registered 5.5 between Oct 15 and Nov 14 2011. Or if you’re on support. Otherwise, it’s 299 USD for the electronic download, _including_ AvidFX, Sorensen Squeeze, and Avid DVD. It will exclude BCC, though.
