If you splice both cams into to the timeline, ungrouped, does either one of them show the green dot?

Use an encoding application like Squeeze. The more recent versions of it feature the Main Concept H264 encoder, which much less suffers from the infamous Apple H264 codec.

You can’t set a timecode for an AutoSynced clip. Autosynced clips reflect – athe actual timecode of the video and audio elements it consists of.
Also, you may want to check out Grouped clips, which can contain multiple video clips too. That way, you can just switch cameras, even straight from the timeline. -

What you can do, is assign an AuxTC to these clips, which you can track, read, or base an EDL on, if you like. -
Or output to a deck at 23/24, then use the deck to do the conversions. Also note that the 50i version will be shorter.

PAL 59.94? You mean PAL 50, right?
I’d shoot 23.976 or 24.00p (depending on where you post), then deriving your 59.94i and 50i delivery items from a 23/24 master. -

BTW, MC does play on when tweaking sound levels when you use an external mixing board, like the Avid Artist Mix (formerly known as Euphonix MC Mix).

True. Upside on PC: you get to use Avid DVD. Upside on Mac: you get to encode MXF ProRes. I love having PC systems plus a MacBook Pro. Keeps me flexible.
