  • What format to shoot in for a specific delivery.

    Hi all,

I’ve searched and searched, and I can’t find any help for my issue.

We are about to shoot a show and the client wants 2 formats for delivery. HDCAM pal 59.94 and HDCAM ntsc 59.94.

We can rent just about any camera known to man to accomplish this, we just want to make sure each master looks as great as possible. What I need to know, is with these 2 outputs needed, what settings should we shoot to create both masters easily?

I’ve created PAL masters from NTSC before, and vice versa, and they always look a little weird. Any ideas?

Ideally we want the show to have the look and feel of 24p….

    Thanks,

    Ben

PAL 59.94? You mean PAL 50, right?
I’d shoot 23.976 or 24.00p (depending on where you post), then deriving your 59.94i and 50i delivery items from a 23/24 master.

You’ll need to output from an Avid Symphony for the Universal Mastering option…or output the NTSC version and have a dub house with a high end standards converter make the PAL dub.

Or output to a deck at 23/24, then use the deck to do the conversions. Also note that the 50i version will be shorter.
