There is no 145 for 23/24p projects. This is because the data rate (per second) is lower when the frame rate is lower, when using the same compression.

    So DNxHD115 (23/25) equals DNxHD120 (25) and DNxHD145 (29), and DNxHD175 (23/24) equals DNxHD185 (25) and DNxHD220 (29).

You can transcode to 29.97, as you did, and then you’ll have sources that are 23.976 with a pulldown added. If you cut those, you are likely to break pulldown phase. Not problematic in some cases, but not the cleanest workflow.

Guess you got stuck on the number 145, which is understandable, but is just named differently in a 23.976 project.

    What version of the software?

  • If you have just one graphic that needs to be adjusted, but which occurs in multiple sequences, just batch import the updated graphic. All sequences will then link to the new version.

I think v5 did not need the plugin, but had R3D AMA built in to the application. However, that’s way before there was a Scarlet, so I suspect that your MC5 would AMA Red One files, but not Red Scarlet or Epic files.

  • Sync in Avid prior to editing.

  • Love my Z800 as well.

  • Find a refurbished HP Z800 or Z400 and you’ll be good for some years. Or get a full-blown Z820 which will set you back more but will last longer.

There’s things like Paragon NTFS for Mac and MediaFour MacDrive (PC) that allow you to use either NTFS or HFS+. I have these installed on my Macs and PC’s, so that I won’t necessarily have to care about the drive format.

My gut tells me that using HFS+ drive on a PC (with MacDrive) is somewhat faster than using NFTS on Macs, but I’ve never done any benchmark testing.

Officially, Avid won’t bless using NTFS media drives on Mac nor HFS+ media drives on PC, and it does slow the drive speed slightly, but for generic editing, I have found it to just work.

Ah yes, drives for Macs and PC’s are formatted differently, so you may need to take that into account. All my Macs have Paragon NTFS for Mac installed and all my PC’s have MediaFour MacDrive installed, so I can use either NFTS or HFS+ drives.

Do note that it is not recommended to work with NTFS media drives on a Mac or HFS+ media drives on a PC. But it does work, I’ve done it often enough.
