October 10, 2006 at 10:55 pm in reply to: Help with Screen Text Plugin

Set the Display Speed to 1.0

Set Frequency of Overwrite to 15.0

Display speed will cause one character to be drawn on the screen every frame. You could also set it to say, 7 characters and have entire words or numbers appear instead of individual characters.

Frequency of Overwrite tells Screen Text how often you want to overwrite the current line. If there’s no scroll speed, this will give you the effect you want. If you set it to 15, then every 15 frames it will read a new line from your text file. If you want lines replaced faster, set it to a lower number.

    Hope that helps,
    Jim

Actually, to get people to the ‘horizon’ you may want to change the Z dimension to something like 10000. Adjust X and Z to taste and camera position.

Actually you can do it with 3D Assistants LE that comes with AE 6.0 and 6.5 PB. The pro version gives you a few more options, but it’s possible with LE.

Select your layers and set up Cubic Distribution with the following dimensions:

    X: 3000, Y: 1, Z: 3000

    Hit Apply.

That’s it. (about 10 seconds of work)

You can also use the Repeat Layers option to randomly duplicate your layers. It maxes out at 10, so if you’re starting off with 10 layers and want a 1000, you’ll need to apply the assistant twice… once to get 100 layers (10 x 10 = 100), then once to get 1000 (10 x 100).

    cheers,
    Jim

You can also use Bulge, CC Lens, or Optics Compensation to add the refraction around the edges that you’d normally see in a glass globe.

It’s hardly a one trick pony. There’s seven different chart types that handle a wide range of data types, from simple monthly sales figures to multi-dimensional scientific data. That’s a lot of different ways to visualize data. If you do a lot of presentation type work where you need to display data, it saves a lot of time and gives you a lot of flexibility.

That said, if you just need the occasional bar chart, yes it’s expensive and that’s not who the product was designed for. To that end, we’re coming out with a lite version of it that will have the basic 2D business charts and some off-shoot plugins aimed at motion graphic artists that just generate animated chart-like elements using random data and/or math functions for backgrounds and whatnot. Should be about $200 and be out around DVExpo (mid-Nov.).

    cheers,
    Jim
