Somehow your preferences setting for Import — Still Footage was changed to 1 frame, which will also control the length of all new layers, lights, nulls, cameras, etc. Set it to “Length of Composition,” or whatever length you prefer in the setting below that. If that isn’t the problem you may need to restore the default preferences file to correct possible corruption.

Click on one of the first two icons in the lower left corner to expand the Layer Switches or Transfer Control panes to see the values.

Assuming I understand your question, the simplest way is to make the text object a child of the cube, and then move the text into its desired position (which can also be animated as the cube rotates). Though it takes a few more steps to setup, creating a parent constraint for the text object should do the same thing, and in my tests does not cause any render issues. If you can’t get it worked out, post your project file so we can take a look at it.

In the Particle Emitter’s particle properties set the Birthrate to 1 and make the difference between Start and Stop Emission 1 frame. In its emitter properties set the size to 1×1 so that wherever the emitter is positioned the particle will emit from that position only.

Ripple delete.
Once you have used the razor blade tool to establish both sides of your cut, right click on the section to be removed and select “Ripple Delete.” That section will be deleted and everything following it will be moved forward to fill the gap.
