What do you mean? Is it flattened? Or are they just rasterised layers?

If the latter then just do a colour overlay style or an adjustment layer.
If it’s flattened to might have to separate and cut out the elements you need to change by either colour keying them or cutting out by hand with the pen tool.

September 21, 2006 at 3:28 pm in reply to: Decklink SD / Photoshop / Wacom CONFLICTS?..

    No, unfortunately not.

It just hangs for ages with either the eggtimer – that I can move about but not operate, or the cursor of the tool I am using just locked up completely. I have to force quit p/shop, but there’s no error message. Occasionally the only way I can get out of PS is to reboot the whole machine. Nightmare I’m sure you’ll agree!

I’ve since uninstalled everything to do with the wacom and unplugged it and also tried the older version of the Decklink driver and re-installed PS.
    Still doing it.

    (Rubs head…)

Oooh – one other thing it ‘could’ be…I recently ran the 30-day trial of CS2, which has just run out. So I’m back to CS1 until my boss coughs up for Production Studio. Anyone had any experience of expired trials leaving satuff behind that could mess up previous versions?

Don’t know how much the Re:Flex plugin costs, but Re:Flex is included free with Combustion..might be more sensible to buy that..add more strings to your bow, etc.

Or did I just get some AE heckles up?

I still use Elastic Reality for the very infrequent morphing jobs we get – still VERY good. Haven’t delved into Re:Flex yet, but I’m sure it’s probably AT LEAST as good.

September 6, 2006 at 9:33 pm in reply to: Create Custom Guides (round)

I’m pretty sure you can’t have curved guides, but the best way to make a template up for DVDs/CDs is scan one in at 100% and crop it off into a square and then use vector circles to cut out the middle and edge and title safe edge, invert the outer edge ones and adjust opacity so you can see them all, save and hey presto – a disc template! Using vector shape means you can size it up to 600dpi + if you’re using a hi-res inkjet printer or similar.

Of course, if you can’t be arsed with all that you can download templates pretty easily if you google them.

    Have fun.

August 30, 2006 at 10:10 am in reply to: Text In Z Space

Actually, on this showreel, on the “FREE Love” Spot (about 3/4 of the way through), does anyone know how to achieve the effect they have created with the 3D solid animation of the text? (where the z-depth of the F and R animates out and then as the letters move the z-depth shrinks back to flat)

Or is this the same question you were asking?!?

It’s just that I often get asked to add some 3D depth to text in AFX or P.Shop and there’s no easy workaround I’ve found, so I’ve started using Illustrator’s 3D extrude…but it’s hardly an easy workflow! And you can’t animate it.

    Any ideas REALLY appreciated.
    Sorry to hi-jack your thread!

  • Yes, you want a DeckLink HD Extreme or similar and a decent video card. Have a ganders at: https://www.blackmagic-design.com/products/

Bluefish 444 and AJA do similar (but more expensive products) but Blackmagic are good for most peoples’ needs.

August 30, 2006 at 9:18 am in reply to: masking motion

You just need to key out the rose using one of AFX’s colour keyers (try all of them or combine them to get the best result) and then when you have a fairly good key duplicate the layer with the keying effect on it and control the colours of the rose until you are happy. Delete the keyer from the original layer and desaturate that layer to B&W or whatever you fancy. A bit of tweaking and you’re done.

If you can’t get a good key off the rose, as other colours around it are too similar, you may have to animate a mask around it (roto) which is long and laborious, but sometimes the only viable option.

    Have fun!

How about (presuming these are all stills brought in a animated in AFX?) you re-import the still layers you want to extend into your project and set “import sill as length of composition” then copy and paste your keyframes from the 5sec layers to the new ones? Or I think you could just duplicate your 5 sec layers, then time-stretch your duplicates and then paste the KFs onto them from the 5sec originals.

Some one will probably come along any minute and say “you push THAT button”!

Does 6.5 not have the text animation tools that 7.0 has (I was on 5.5)? You can pretty much do anything to text in 7.0 and isolate each character for animation. There are also a tonne of presets for stuff like that and of course with shatter you can explode the word/s into pieces.

Download the 7.0 demo from Adobe then you’ve got it to play around with for 30 days while you convince your boss to buy it! 😉 You won’t want to go back trust me!
