  • ILLUSTRATOR – 3d extrude & RAM?

    Hi,

For some reason I’ve almost never really touched on Illustrator until now, usually relying on Photoshop for pretty much everything. But since hearing about ILLUST CS2’s 3D abilities I have downloaded the trial…

    3 things really…

1.) Not bad stuff considering it’s a 2D app, but the 3D extrude/bevel effect is running VERY slowly. I’m trying to see how effective it is placing some text in situ & perspective in a video scene and playing with the lights a bit..Everytime I even switch bewtween lights it hangs for about 30secs. Is this normal? (I am running an XP32Pro machine with a Pent 4 2.4GHz / 2GB RAM / NVidia GeForce 5200 gfx card. – not v/high spec for mo-graph I know, but I thought Illustrator would be a breeze?)

I know I should be using a dedicated 3D app, but our 3D guy is away and I’m just seeing how effective I can make still 3D type myself. (I *wish* After Effects had something like this that you could animate!)

2.) Also, is there any way to create shadows based on the lights used within this filter?

3.) How does RAM work with Illustrator? I’ve tried to find something in the presets similar to P/Shop to boost the power as much as I can but no joy.

    Thanks very much in advance.
