April 2, 2007 at 9:06 am in reply to: Nucleo included in AE CS3 ?

    Hi Steve,

Is Lightwave supported by the new Nucleo Pro2 3D render queue? And just to clarify – does Nucleo speed up 3D renders at all as a result?

Last thing (promise!) – Will Nucleo Pro2 add any more speed/performance on TOP on AE CS3’s new multicore support? Or is it mainly the workflow advantages of NP that will be the draw, rather than added horsepower?

    Thanks.

On XP Pro 64 apparently AE7 can see and use 4GB RAM (as long as you have at least 5-6GB installed – OS and PCIExpress buffer will take a bunch first) I’m presuming (hoping) that AE CS3 will do the same, even though it’s still a 32-bit app. Nucleo Pro will use any RAM you throw at it aswell.

I don’t know if CS3 will be runnable on XP Pro 64 or not, I do hope so though..I’m not touch Vista with a barge pole!

Also, if you use a 64-bit OS like Windows XP64 AE can use 4GB of RAM, might not be any use on a Mac, but if you can boot Windows on there it might be useful with a PC copy of the app..

Ahaaa….clever stuff. I’ve not really done any character animation, but was interested. Thanks.

  • You cannot import 3D models directly into AE, you’d need a TGA sequence or movie file of it with and alpha channel. As for ‘painting over it’ it’d be easir to do that in a 3D app if the thing is going to be spinning. If not use Photoshop if it’s a still I guess. Or just find/build two versions of the animated earth and fade between them

Sounds ace. That was my number one wish list thing for the next AE. Number 2 was multiproc support and 3 was 64bit…..2 out of 3 certainly ain’t bad! Nucleo can still eat plenty of RAM though, but I wonder if it adds anything performance wise now that AE can use your extra procs aswell?

Using Maya aswell – Quadro sounds like a plan.

BTW, so did the Apples give the best results over Dell/HP or similar LCDs? I was thinking of doing the same thing actually, as I’ve heard the apples look great, but wasn’t sure how compatible they are with a PC. Any problems?

Another thing I wasn’t sure about when looking at an Apple display in the shop was the way text in the GUI, etc looks really jagged? The guy (who clearly didn’t have a clue what I was on about) said it was the coating or something! Eh? Or is that just the way LCDs rasterize text? Got me worried I have to admit after using CRTs for years. It looked pretty bad.

Oh – also, I’d double check with Adobe if the new CS3 products will be compatible with 64-bit XPPro. It only mentions XP32 and Vista32 in the bumpf. I’m amazed they haven’t gone 64 with their new apps to be honest, but if you can’t even use them with XP64 then it’s hello to Vista driver nightmares!

Then I guess you need a card that Apple certify as running those displays, aswell as one that meets AE’s recommended list. That said, AE doesn’t really need a wowzers GFX card..but some of it’s plugins do (Knoll Light Factory works super-fast with a decent GPU, Zaxwerks relies on fast GPU, etc, etc..maybe look at the plugs you use and see what they suggest?)

You can’t go wrong with a mid-high range Quadro though if you’ve got the money and CS3 looks like it will use it more the AE7 does.

    March 28, 2007 at 12:50 pm in reply to: AE CS3 = version 8?

That is something I would like to know..I would probably only want to upgrade AE + PS, because I don’t want to lose Audition and don’t really need new versions of the rest of the suite..it’ll probably end up costing more to do it that way though!?!

Turns out Production Premium isn’t out until the autumn anyway, so presumably no new AE until either?

…Actually, just looking at the Adobe website – I don’t know if I qualify for a separate AE upgrade from Production Suite Premium…can you only upgrade from suite to suite, rather than just sep elements from within it? Anyone do that with older bundles?
