  • WAIT!….I take it all back…

Premiere Pro CC2014 is now totally unusable in Yosemite on my Mac Pro. Don’t know what’s happened (nothing new has been installed) but basically I can edit in PP for about 5-10 mins and then I either get beachball lock up, or my media all freezes or disappears and playhead just scrubs nothing.

Just updated to Yosemite 10.10.1 to see if it helped, but no joy.

Is anyone else getting this? Machine pretty much useless now 🙁

  • Hi Todd,

Oh dear god…this is pretty fundamental!

My new MP shipped with Yosemite, so presumably I’d have to somehow wipe my system and re-install with Mavericks to fix this problem? Mavericks being incredibly buggy, I’m loathed to do that.

Also another problem which I wonder might be related Todd?…In conjunction with this delay I have been having a problem with cached frames (whether to RAM or Disk Cache) getting dumped after it’s previewed? I.E: it will render all the frames and preview on loop…when I hit RP button to stop it all or some of the green bar disappears, so it has to re-render every time.

Please let me know if there is a fix for this one, as I can potentially live with the lag for now.

    Thanks,
    James

  • Don’t know, but 10.9.4 worked fine for me but to be honest i went straight to yosemite and (touchwood) so far so good.

Maybe recent PPro patches have sorted out the problems ppl have been having. Have you got any unusual 3rd party gear?

    Hi Piere,

Sorry maybe wasn’t clear…they have been precomped, but essentially i’ve got 5 precomps of the same thing, but each one has certain layers within that are visible. It is these layers i need to twixtor individually so no crossing over of objects. I am then stitching them back on top of each other in the parent comp where the instances of twixtor are being applied. I need them CR’d though so it looks through into each one to honour the blend modes.

Thanks for any thoughts you might have.

    Hi Walter,

Have you had any joy with the US box yet?

    Cheers,

    Thanks Eric.

It also *reads* as though only the new 12G Extreme will let you downconvert a 4k timeline to a HD monitor, which seems odd as many people will likely grade on a HD monitor and then check output on a 4k projector, etc?…All the other 4k Decklinks and the 4k Ultrastudio only mention HD downconversion.

Also the DL Extreme doesn’t appear to have any tech specs for HDMI I/O – does anyone know?

    Thank,
    James

Thanks Walter, that’d be grand. Going to hold off on either until have investigated more, so anything you can add would be great.

All i’ve read so far which is of concern re: ultrastudio is the apparent ‘light aircraft like’ fan noise (!) and lack of downconvert from 4k to HD on the output. Also looks like colour fidelity and HFR 4k is slightly less on the US.

    Cheers,
    James

  • Quick update: Just tested PPro CC 2014.1 on Yosemite and so far so good!

Next test is to see what options there are out of the box getting a 4k signal out of the onboard HDMI to a 4k projector…anyone had any success with getting an external ref signal out of these (via Prem/AFX) rather than it just showing up as an additional workspace monitor?

Was hoping we wouldn’t have to lump for a 4k blackmagic card just yet, so would be good to know if there’s any workarounds ppl know of?

    Thanks.
