    Hi all,

Just a quick one to see if anyone has had experience with one or both of these? Not much trafficon bmd forum so thought i’d try here.

Getting a new mac pro and looking at either the US on thunderbolt, or decklink in a Pcie chassis with some other cards out of my tower. Does US do everything DL does and what is the main benefit of the new 12G SDI decklink coming out?

    Thanks,
    James

We are getting the Deckling 4k shortly and possibly an Ultrastudio 4k as well. Will have a report once we get them and test.

Thanks Walter, that’d be grand. Going to hold off on either until have investigated more, so anything you can add would be great.

All i’ve read so far which is of concern re: ultrastudio is the apparent ‘light aircraft like’ fan noise (!) and lack of downconvert from 4k to HD on the output. Also looks like colour fidelity and HFR 4k is slightly less on the US.

    Cheers,
    James

The 12G brings HDMi2.0 to the Blackmagic lineup which allows 4K at 60 frame via HDMi.

    Thanks Eric.

It also *reads* as though only the new 12G Extreme will let you downconvert a 4k timeline to a HD monitor, which seems odd as many people will likely grade on a HD monitor and then check output on a 4k projector, etc?…All the other 4k Decklinks and the 4k Ultrastudio only mention HD downconversion.

Also the DL Extreme doesn’t appear to have any tech specs for HDMI I/O – does anyone know?

    Thank,
    James

    Hi Walter,

Have you had any joy with the US box yet?
