Great stuff!
so the whole authorisation/activation thing doesn’t deactivate 7 when CS3 is activated?

Garnet,
For PC you could try Blackmagic Design’s HD Link. Does a similar job as MXO when using Dell/Apple 23-24″ displays. Interlacing isn’t as good as MXO – but if it’s a feature film you shouldn’t be working with fields anyway.
Of course a SONY CRT or high-end pro LCD would be your best bet via SDI, but this workflow should do you ok. Certainly better than trying to CC directly from your PC monitor!
Just out of interest…if you’re using FCP then why are you CC’ing in After Effects on a PC? Have you tried Color that ships with FCS?
If you want a HDLink a bit cheaper I have one I’m not using if you want to buy it.

Gridiron sent me a very techy email which to be honest didn’t really help! And I still can’t fathom what’s happening or why or if it can be fixed! I guess it’ll be a dozen emails back and forth before it’s clear! I’d have to phone in the middle of the night to get though that way!…I wish these companies would grasp the fact that it’s not only the US that use their products! 😉

I’d be interested to hear your thoughts…If you put the GLOBE comp to frame 4111 then the seam should be in the middle of the comp.
Thanks again,

We’ve got a couple of copies of CS3 here, so could still open it.
Will get a link setup…
Thanks.

Thanks for this…I finally got time to try it and I’ve got to say…the image I’m using DOES seem seamless already?!? But in my comp it has a definite line.
I’m perplexed to say the least! Do you mind having a look at my image at your end Ron? I think I posted a link for it above…?
Thanks, confused as hell, Jim.

Motor is Mocha’s little brother..it does tracking and roto, but not track adjust or exporting of tracking data.
Not used Motor myself, but I think it’s pretty identical to Mocha..so when epxorting mattes for roto I usually just export the matte as an image sequence or QT. No point exporting the RGB data aswell, as it should just be the same as what you imported. Just select the mattes/roto shapes you want to export. Select Alpha and not RGB and you should be sorted. Match it up to your original footage in AE and bob’s yer uncle.
As for Fusion – why are you asking about that? It won’t let you track like Motor does, are you asking as a replacement for AE? Totally different workflow as it is node based not layer based. Would take ALOT of getting used to if you’ve only worked in AE, but well worth it if you do alot of film compositing. But you can still do most of what Fusion can in AE, but may take longer. For mograph, etc the inverse would probably apply = quicker in AE, but you could do it in Fusion with alot of extra work.
Horses for courses. I work solely in AE/Mocha and happy as larry, but I don’t do alot of compositing these days.

Thanks for you reply..sorry to be thick, but what do you mean by ‘offset’ it? Can you explain the process in a nutshell for me?
Cheers,

Hi Wes.
The comp is 6720 x 784..we are just changing comp size to 1344 x 784 – which cuts it down to the middle screen.
Any ideas?

You could try setting AE to purge frames if it can’t do the whole comp in one go (hold down shift and then select prefs, keeping shift held down and then a new menu item should appear at the bottom – ‘secret’ in AE7/8 and I think ‘schecret’ in 6.5?) set it to purge XX number of frames to suit how early it’s crashing. Usually 10-15 frames is a good place to start)
That said – I am working on massive 7000 x 700 pix comps at the mo and even purging EVERY frame is not working for me!
Another option of course is to break your render up into bits and then bolt them together afterwards…
