    Hi,

Not sure why this thread (see below) has been moved, but if anyone on here has anymore input into this I’d really appreciate it. Maybe Andrew himself has some ideas? Thing is I’ve got a very important (the first in my new job!) project deadline looming and my earth looks kak at the moment because of this join problem…anyone fancy ‘joining’ in!? 😉

    Cheers all,
    Jim.

have you tried using the project files from his earth CC Sphere tutorial and using the map files as a template for your map?

Yep, that’s how I built it.

you could take the map into photoshop and offset the image so the edges are against each other, then use the clone tool to try and get rid of the seam, then un-offset the image again to map it onto the sphere.

    Hi Ron,

Thanks for you reply..sorry to be thick, but what do you mean by ‘offset’ it? Can you explain the process in a nutshell for me?

    Cheers,
    Jim.

Ok, basically you have an image that is say, 200 x 200 pixels. If you open it in Photoshop and go to Filter> Other> Offset, then offset it by half of the width and height and make sure undefined areas are set to wrap around, you’ll get the edges to all touch each other.

If you clone, blur, etc. to get the edges to match up without any visible seams, then apply offset again with the same settings, you’ll have fixed the edge matching up problem and have your image back the way it was, but fixed. This is the way we used to do seamless textures before all the fancy plugins and such.

Another tip that nobody seems to know… when creating cloud textures, you can make an image with a white background that is a multiple of 256 x 256 pixels, apply clouds or difference clouds filter, and it will be a seamless texture. You can make this somewhat large and use it as a cloud or fog layer that doesn’t look like it’s tiling and doesn’t have to be super huge to move around rapidly. You can duplicate and set one layer to start when another one ends (time offset) and be able to work with the layers easily without having a gigantic layer that slows everything down and is hard to deal with.

    I hope this helps.

    Hi Ron,

Thanks for this…I finally got time to try it and I’ve got to say…the image I’m using DOES seem seamless already?!? But in my comp it has a definite line.

I’m perplexed to say the least! Do you mind having a look at my image at your end Ron? I think I posted a link for it above…?

    Thanks, confused as hell, Jim.

I’m not seeing it in Andrew’s project file, but I may be missing something.

I also checked the map in Photoshop and it looks good, no seams there.

    hrm.

check your motion tile settings and make sure you don’t have a weirdness in one of the settings, or just try to rebuild it in a new project.

Sorry I can’t help more. Maybe you can upload your project so that someone (like me) could look at your issue and see if we can fix it. Of course, that’s a bit of a problem on my end, as I have CS3 and I think you’re on AE7, right? If I sent it back, you couldn’t open it.

I could strip down the project to just the earth and collect it and then yousendit?

We’ve got a couple of copies of CS3 here, so could still open it.

    Will get a link setup…

    Thanks.

    Hi Ron,

    Link here to project: https://www.yousendit.com/transfer.php?action=download&ufid=AD4D7DF04166AB76

I’d be interested to hear your thoughts…If you put the GLOBE comp to frame 4111 then the seam should be in the middle of the comp.

    Thanks again,
    Jim.
