My situation is similar to yours in when i started with M100 and now happily cutting away with FCP. When I retired my M100 last fall the going rate on e-bay was about $65 so my landfill is now the proud owner of a once great system. Loved the breakout box but unfortunately couldn’t be reworked to run on anything else.

I started with M100 back in ’97. Quality was always great but for commercials the workflow essentially consisted of using it to capture footage so After Effects could work it’s magic. Then once the spot was rendered out putting it back to M100 to dump to tape. The two video tracks were very limiting and the integration with Boris never gave me the same feeling of being in control of the situation as when working in After Effects.
Initially started with the first version of FCP as a backup when my M100 card had to be repaired. Eventually started using it more and more and discovered that so much more could be done inside it without the need to go to AE because of the number of audio and video tracks available. It does have lots of features but doesn’t mean you have to use them all.
The M100 was finally retired last fall after earning me thousands of dollars but I found that FCP gave me greater options for the workflow that made the most sense for my production company. I have two workstations and it’s on my laptop and have never regretted switching.

It wasn’t here but turned up in a search at Adobe. It’s a keyboard layout issue, I had it on Canadian which wasn’t supported.

Luke, in the Multibridge manual it says you add a Decklink card for the world’s highest quality editing sytem. In your post you say the Multibridge with PCI-X will not use a card. Are these two different units or do you need a card to work with the Multibride?

I meant to ask too, does the analog component connection work better than the digital firewire in terms of quality?

Thanks for your response Bob. This didn’t make any sense to me either but it was in a layout diagram of an io manual I downloaded from AJA about a year ago. You’d think they would have known how their system sets up!

Bob, I see you are using an IO box and a Kona card. I’m trying to determine which direction to go and I’m unclear of the difference between the card and the box. Do they do the same basic function or why would you choose the card over the box?

Thanks Jerry, I didn’t know that switch existed. I was able to get most clips captured finally and I think it may have been trying to capture to close to a break. At least knowing that switch is there now I can play with that if I get further trouble.
