Just received our first Kona 2, we upconverted dsr 570 WS footage to DVC HD 720p and it looks great ! Looking to hook up my io’s with the K2’s, I am told it will feed it well but what about audio ? I assume the io will deliver out embedded audio via it’s sdi to the K2… then back out to tape will FCP embed the audio in the SDI so my io can pass it to an analog deck ? Appreciate any feedback Thank you !

We are posting a project for a client that originates on film and has been transferred at 23.98 to HDcam. The lab pulled 29.97 offline tapes for the initial editing and it is up to our facility to create the masters for the broadcaster at 59.94, 1080i.

We have done this with commercials many times but never for a long-form series. We are using Final Cut 5 and a Kona 2 and wondering if there is some way to do this on the fly without rendering out a new sequence. We are using Cinema tools, of course to convert the 29.97 SD offlines to 23.98 onlines. The trick is adding pulldown on the fly and mastering at 59.94.

Does someone have a solution to this.

    Thanks,

you are correct – it uses the embedded audio, and then de embeddes when you go back from SDI to analog. Everything you are assuming is correct.

Bob, I see you are using an IO box and a Kona card. I’m trying to determine which direction to go and I’m unclear of the difference between the card and the box. Do they do the same basic function or why would you choose the card over the box?

    thanks,
