Vegas 11, nVidia GTX570, set to auto, CUDA does help timeline preview especially with multiple streams in multicam mode, mostly there are no weird hangs or crashes. There have been many people thinking that an insufficient power supply has caused their problems. I’m using a Seasonic 850W psu.

For me, V8 was the most stable. I skipped V9 because it also had many grumblings of crashing. I tried a trial of it and it seemed worse than V8 by far (for me). I went to V10 because of AVCHD support. It worked OK, but still crashed WAY more than V8. Now I’m on V11, but only after their latest build. It seems much more stable (for me) than V10. I have projects started on V10 that get a bit complicated over time and eventually start to hang or crash, so I converted them to V11. No more hangs or crashes. And this is all on a very new and mostly clean PC, Win7, latest i7 cpu, GTX570 gpu, etc.

Oh, and gpu cuda support DOES work well for me, but is only noticeable when previewing 4 streams of avchd in multicam mode. Something V10 does not do well.

That said, I will most likely skip V12, at least for a couple of builds. But then again, for $130 upgrade, it’s not a big deal to download it.

V10 is actually less stable than V11 for me. V8 was almost rock solid.

You can use track motion on each of the two tracks, reducing the size of each track’s image to allow you to see both at the same time. I think you might be asking how you can slip a track by seeing both, so this might help you. Actually, this is basically how Ultimate-S quad-cam does it.

I tried the trial version of Boris Continuum and it does seem to work really well. I also just found this article to make the Vegas one work better, and it does seem to be pretty good. The key action is to make the green screen more prominent by using the secondary CC filter. Of course, Boris has much better matte controls.

So just a thought, try this as well:

Stephen, I guess you are one of the lucky ones. I don’t ever use games and only install tools to help with editing, and I’ve been using Vegas since V4 and with at least 5 computers. I certainly don’t have enough hands to count the number of crashes & hangs. Yes, I’m sure all NLE’s will crash at times, but Vegas certainly crashes more often than I would like, especially since version 8. I still love using it, it’s very powerful, very intuitive, and I don’t want to ever switch, but I do hope they patch up V11 to be as stable as V8.

I no longer use that cam, but never had an issue with importing into Vegas (version 8 at the time). One thing that I often did wrong was to think there was a connectivity problem when in fact it was the wrong setting of SD vs. HDV. Be sure the camera is set the same as the capture software, or it will seem like there is no camera connection.

Hey Shaun, good to see you here! I’m not sure where I read this, but I heard that the g.skill ram wasn’t as good as others, so I got the CORSAIR Vengeance. You might also want to set your “Dynamic RAM Preview” to 0 to see if this helps. Good luck!
