I lost a day’s work because I had multiple projects open and it only autosaved the one project that was “in the foreground”, if you will (i.e. the project whose bin was currently chosen).

    Uggh!

  • Just to clarify…

We have a 23.98 ProRes sequence — trying to export out a 29.97 ProRes sequence with a proper 3:2 interlaced pulldown — we’re not making a DVD or going to MPEG…

  • Jumping into this thread:

Earlier comments notwithstanding, IS THERE A WAY to build a properly interlaced 3:2 pulldown from a 23.98 file (possibly using compressor) —

We need to do this to deliver an Avid editor something that we can later reference back to (long story, but trust me, we need a 29.97 file with good interlacing)…

    Good to know!

    Thank you!!

One other update to the export workaround:

I encountered the “bad render” problem (again) (FCP ignores Basic Motion etc) when I tried using Export a QuickTime Movie — but then it worked when I used “Export Using QuickTime Conversion”….

Jeremy did you mean to say:

I’d export to 10bit though if you are working in ProRes HQ.

It’s my understanding (not by any means certain about this) that ProRes (non-HQ) is 8 bit.

    ** A FIX / WORKAROUND** !!!

Sean Findley — our resident genius tried exporting the sequence out with the Codec set to “8 Bit Uncompressed” — And all anomalies went away!!!!!

Then using QuickTime we exported the 8 Bit HiDef file (which was 24 gig’s for 5 minutes) to ProRes

MAKE SURE: When you make the 8 bit file that you use “Custom Settings” (under export QuickTime Movie) as the 1st time I exported using “8 Bit Uncompressed” it exported to Standard Def and 29.97 eventhough we are 23.98 and 1920×1080 — so make sure you export out at the proper settings for your file!!

Yish! Every problem described above we’re having too!!!

We have a Kona 3 and an 8 core and it’s a ProRes sequence.

The sequence plays fine, BUT when I try to export out a quicktime FCP either (a) bombs or (b) renders crazy (like previously describes — especially shots with Basic motion (crop – reposition etc.) and picture-in-picture’s — big problems with those — tried trashing preferences — that stopped the bombing (for a second) but the export were still wacky bad.

Now it’s back to bombing on “Export Quicktime Move”…

Just to add validation to the rest of you, we’re having the same problem — just goes into “snap” mode all by itself… Started when we updated to 6.02

June 30, 2007 at 1:33 am in reply to: How do I clean up this difference matte?

This is a great job for “Auto-Trace” under “Layer–> Auto-Trace”

    Use Luminance as your “channel”

    and here’s the trick:
set “Minimum Area” to 3000 (that’s the max I think)

Now AE will make one or more masks around your rough matte.

It may make additional masks for the smaller areas, if it does just delete those masks– you want the single biggest mask and it will also clean up the non anti-aliased problems that the difference matte introduced…
