Perhaps you mean this from the FCP 6.0.2 release notes:

Changes to Snapping Behavior When Performing Shuffle Edits
Shuffle (or ?swap?) edits are performed by dragging a clip over an adjacent clip and then holding down the Option key. (For more information, see page 194 in Volume II of the Final Cut Pro User 6 Manual.) In Final Cut Pro 6.0.2, holding down Option after you begin dragging a clip temporarily enables snapping, regardless of whether snapping was turned on when you began dragging the clip. You can temporarily turn on or turn off snapping while you drag the clip by pressing the N key. After you release the mouse button, the snapping mode returns to however it was set before you began dragging the clip.

Note: Because of the complex sequence of keys required to turn on or turn off snapping during a shuffle edit, you should never assign keyboard shortcuts with modifier keys to the snapping command. For example, D and N are good keyboard shortcuts for snapping, but Option-N and Option-D are not.

This is not about the release notes on FCP 6.0.2. We are aware of the release notes, but this one It just enable itself randomly while overcut, fit to fill, insert, scrolling through the timeline and other various edit without pressing option or pressing the N key. And we don’t know why. It’s weird.

This happened to me last sunday while editing a tv show for that night. Beyond frustrating. Even weirder, it went away Monday. I have no idea why, but I suspect it’s hiding out and shall return for another afternoon of random ‘fun’ at some point.

The only thing I did different after Sunday was shut down the machine and pull it from use for the night. Haven’t had anything weird with it all week, other than it doesn’t like to read FCP files from Leopard machines. It’s a 10.4.11 machine – which begs the question, what version of the OS are you running with FCP?

I noticed the same problem last week. I thought I was crazy. I’d literally turn snapping off by hitting “N” and it would just turn back on. I did notice if I turned it off by hitting the on screen button it seemed to limit the problem. (or am I really crazy) Still strange and a pain considering I go back and forth between snapping all the time.

I was thinking about that. I guess I can try it on one of our edit bays whose having problem.

Same as yours 10.4.11.

Billy J-That’s the same thing our editors was saying “they thought they were crazy.”

So we still need to find out what’s causing this weird problem that snapping tool turn on by itself while editing without pressing N and option. This is happen when we upgrade from FCP 6.0.1 to 6.0.2.

I figured out how to make it happen again. And to go away.

To create the problem – have snapping OFF in final cut, switch to the finder, drag a useable file to the timeline and it will try to snap (always has, bit annoying, but whatever) and do what I’ve always tried to do, which is disengage the snapping by pressing the N key. Doesn’t disengage it, but now you’ll have snapping engaged on any drag event.

To stop this from occurring, shut down the computer and restart. That’s the only fix. Can someone else verify that they can recreate the bug this way? We can submit it to Apple then.

Deleted the FCP plist, FCP preferences and QT preferences and same result. Snapping tool still enable itself randomly.

I tried it doing it, but I cannot create the problem. It only turns on by itself when editing.

Just to add validation to the rest of you, we’re having the same problem — just goes into “snap” mode all by itself… Started when we updated to 6.02
(Mac OSX 10.4.11 — Intel 8 core)
