  • ProRes does capture line 21 data in SD as it’s 720 by 486 but if you insert anything into it it will destroy that data like Andy says. I haven’t tried to save caption and other HD-VANC space data from HDCam yet as 708 captions are a whole different animal. If and when I get time to play I’ll report back (Christmas maybe). So far we just master to HDCam for our PBS/APT submissions.

So technically Bill violated copyright by copying the article into his posting.
    Just a thought.

I’m in the middle of converting files to DV for a producer so he can do the same thing. Haven’t been using Flip Factory much until they figured out the 720 60p problems so it’s a good test.

Our experience has been that Itunes itself does a pretty good conversion.

Upgrade Quicktime and then upgrade to FCP 6.03 maybe that will get you there, or try MPEG streamclip, Voltaic or something like it to convert the files. Check the related threads

The chipsets on the new Mac Pros are not backwards compatible to Tiger. We have the same issue. We need to add a work station but didn’t want to mess with updating Xsan just yet (fiscal year budget stuff). We did find one of the older Tiger 8 cores on PC Connections but it was the last one.

I’m pretty sure most of it’s Public Domain.

We are shooting and editing almost everything 720p P2 and DVCPro100 from tape. We also have to deliver 1080i to PBS on HDCam so we cross convert all the time using the Kona cards. We just got an AJA FS1 as well as it will do the up,down and cross convert and keep the closed captions which the tape decks won’t do.

[Russell Lasson] “I think things are getting closer and closer to needing a fresh start. “

Don’t forget they will make us all buy new hardware just because.
