How much RAM did you put in? FCP is only going to use 4gb. any more than that gets used by any other programs you run at the same time.

Are you doing more than 1 card at a time? You may need to have both cards in the log and transfer before it can sew them together.

Media100 and FCP will play with the same files as long as the codecs are in the quicktime folder. Media100 would separate the audio files out but in this case QT is just a wrapper so quality isn’t affected unless you convert it into one of Media100’s codecs. Both programs could run on the same Mac if loaded onto different boot partitions or drives because of driver conflicts with hardware.

What are you trying to export? If it’s .wmv you need to upgrade your flip4mac as there is a limit as to the length it will export.

Automatic Duck will translate it back to FCP but kind of expensive if your not going to use it much.

Did you try to remove the in and out points in the timeline.

I think the main problem with FC Express is it treats all QT files as starting with a TC of zero. None of your original TC numbers would have survived the trip to that program.

July 4, 2008 at 6:43 am in reply to: Mastering out HD to SD

    Hey Ken,
You could have asked me this afternoon when you were at the station. We do it all the time. We don’t have an AJA IO HD but we have five Kona 3s an LHe and an FS1. In your AJA control leave you primary for your timeline at 720p Like your easy setup and make the secondary 525 SD downconvert anamorphic (your IO HD may have all your various outputs hot at the same time) your 59.94 timebase is dropframe just like 29.97 timecode. Black at least a couple of minutes on you SD tape to match your starting TC for your edit something like 1:00:00:00 and assemble to your master. Make sure your device control preset is set to the machine type you are mastering to.
