A couple of thoughts re: FedEx/UPS; to ship it ground takes two or maybe three days. This means your gear is out of hand and can’t be used for (going back and forth) a week at a time. Also, many times for me interviews are scheduled and changed. Oops, can’t shoot the interview in Boston, my gear is on the way to Kansas City… can you get your CEO to do it next week?

The toys really have to fly with me, so 62″ total dimensions w/ max weight 50lbs are the rules I need to live by. So, back to original question; light weight, high protection cases (like Tenba and some Lightware cases)?

BTW, because on occasion airline can loose things (gasp!), I have camera and wireless mic in a hardshell carry on, and yes, I’ve had to do an interview once using ambient light w/ the camera balanced on chair. (welcome to my life).

Thanks for taking the time to flesh out some options. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

    Cheers,

    Thanks for your input.

FedEx is an interesting idea except they can charge as much or more than an additional airline seat. Also, if your going to more than one location, the logistics become complicated at best.

I’ve looked at Lightware and the cases I’ve seen either use a great deal of interior space for padding (so not enough room for gear), or are not strong enough to protect.

Ask the Airlines: Perhaps you’ve had different experiences, but over the past few years airlines have been in the “Make Life Difficult Business” not the make exceptions and be helpful business.

I thought I had run across folks that were making cases similar to Tenba and hoped that they might be more amenable to creating a case to meet Airline specs, but I’ve lost the info.

    Anyway, thanks for your suggestions.

    Cheers,

The advantage of Reflectmedia is that it takes up very little space, and does create a very even key. However, it has a number of “gotchas”.
Because the light ring creates its own shadow, you can get a thin but significant shadow all around the subject. You need to make sure your subject is just about touching the fabric. Refectmedia also can create a halo around the subject. If you go this route, I find it imperative that you get a good Chroma Key plug in. I tried many (including Ultramatte)and found Primatte Key Pro to be a real life saver.

    Good Luck,

    Thanks Craig.

I did try MPEGstreamclip on the PC, but that didn’t work on some of the files. I guess if it were easy they wouldn’t call it work.

Thanks for the quick reply. The render setting is on ProRes (always a good reminder). At present, we are transitioning from DV to HDV to XDCam. We will settle in on XDCam (at least for a while until some bright soul comes up with an actual ProRes camera [not just an Ki mini add on] BTW, there would be hours of HDV footage to transcode, I was hoping for a hardware solution.

    Perfect.

Everything now works on my end, now to test and see if I can link up with InXpo’s(a Flash private platform) & Ustream’s server.

    Thanks again,

It is the EX1R, and I will check your suggestions. Also, I noticed someone mentioning using the EX1 w/ the Matrox MXO2. I’ve hook that up, but am only seeing the top half of the picture. Any suggestions re: setting would be appreciated.

Thanks so much for your over site of this and other threads. I can’t tell you how much of a comfort it is to me not being so alone in this technological jungle.

Yes all of the files were in the AJA folder. The drive came formatted OS Extended. Interesting about the dual mono, I’ll have to look at that.
BTW, I had (6) other videos in the AJA folder that played OK.

It was also mentioned to me about the audio track being 24bit?

    Thanks again for the feedback.

    Cheers,
