OK, so if you have the accelerated, 32bit & YUV boxes checked, no audio filters appear. Uncheck them all and viola — audio filters. This is going to be an exciting journey;-)

It also allows the camera to be somewhat shoulder mounted for a bit more stability. The only issue I have w/ the Hoodman is the time it takes to get it off and on in the middle of a fast paced shoot. (the LCD is needed for the over the head and low/odd angled shots). It would be nice if instead of Velcro and fabric, the Hoodman slid on w/ a hard rubber channeled piece. That way off and on would be much faster.
BTW, I do enjoy the smaller sized cameras for their portability, especially when I have to fly. In the end it seems, there are alway compromises and w/ the smaller size does come some limitations.
I’d be interested in hearing any other insights/solutions.

Sometimes you just have to get to the end of the manual to figure somethings out;-). To view both the viewfinder and the LCD at the same time you need to go to the Output Sel menu and turn off the SDI out. Then go to the display setup and change the EVF mode from auto to ON. BTW, this does mean that you can’t feed a signal to an external SDI monitor, the viewfinder & the LCD at the same time. I’m sure there will be some instances where you would want to do that, but I can’t think of any at the moment.

Just to follow up on my previous post; XDCam Transfer of EX files will play in QT and also import as files into FCP X. That’s pretty much the same work-flow as FC7. It will be interesting to see what Sony comes up with for native import. (and when we will see this plug-in)

Have you been able to import from the BPAV folder into FCX 10.0.1? I just get a green screen. I had read that Sony was creating a plug-in to work w/ EX footage natively. Any news on that?
Other than that, would you use XDCam Transfer & re-wrap/transcode to something?

I’m kind of in Marvin’s camp; checking out the post to see when it might be a good time (if ever) to transition to X. The $299 price tag isn’t the meaningful price of the software, it’s the time that it will take to get up to real world speed with X. I keep reading the post to help me decipher the tools that are missing from the bugs that you would often find in a 1.0 program. I started my transition from Avid to FC at ver 1.5 but really didn’t commit to the software till around FC 3 or 4. That was several years later. Is that a reasonable time-line to expect for X? Who knows; and Apple’s is vague at best about what and when they will be doing things.
However, the predominance of posts (in the Cow and elsewhere) seem to indicate X has possibilities, but it’s probably not time yet to jump in with two feet.
I’ve got X, and I’m poking at it with a long stick, but until I get some indication that its features and work-flow will be worth the time and effort to change over, I’ll be on the sidelines.
Thanks to everyone who is software frontering X, this whole situation is trying at best, and I appreciate your collective efforts.

Interestingly, I’m starting to get request from my clients for BluRay.(small events where a big AV build would be impractical and kiosks)
I’ve switched over to Adobe Encore and it works just great, and building menu pages in PS is easy and straight forward.
There seems to be life after FCP.Cheers,

The point of this discussion (to me) seems to ultimately be whether the new FCPX paradigm is better/more efficient/more creative than FCP7. Whether we like it or not, we all have become FCP novices, and will be spending the next 6 month to a year getting up to speed on X or PP or Avid. It also means, if we switch to PP, ditching the skill sets for Motion (to AE), Compressor (to Adobe Encoder), Color (to DaVinci) etc. So, if I’m going to make that level of commitment of time, I want to make sure I’m moving to something better. The questions raised are very useful, the answers are elusive.
One common thread in all of the posts is that FCPX is incomplete at present time. I started playing w/ FC at version 1.5, it wasn’t until version 3 or 4 that the software was comparable in functionality to Avid MC; so, will we be waiting for FCP12 or 13 for a somewhat mature product/work-flow?
Of course, these are questions only Apple can answer, and they are a black hole of communication. Perhaps an open letter to Apple in the NY Time and WSJ expressing our collective concerns might provoke some serious road map insights from Apple?
In the meantime, I’ve upgraded to CS5.5. I’ve upgraded to Colorista II. I can certainly work effectively with FCP7 for the next 6 months. By then, hopefully, I will have some idea of how this will all shake out. Thanks to all for your thoughtful insights. While in this limbo like state it’s comforting to read your collective constructive rhetoric.
