  • FCS3 & X on MBP 10.6.8

I’ve been playing w/ X on a tower and am thinking of trying it out on my MBP OSX 10.6.8. On the tower I put the X software on a second drive (FCS3 on primary HD), on the MBP I will need to put it on the one internal drive. I’ve heard mixed stories as to whether FCP & X can live happily on the same drive. Any update on putting FCP & X on the same drive?

It seems that I can also partition the drive (without messing up the files that are there already) and put X there. Any thoughts, warnings or best practices would be appreciated.

As always thanks in advance for your sage advice.

    Cheers,

Not recommended on the same drive, but I’ve been running on mine for months without issues

Do read the Apple installation notes:

    https://support.apple.com/kb/HT4722

It is strongly recommended that you install Final Cut Pro X, Motion 5, and Compressor 4 on a startup disk that does not have Final Cut Studio (2009) already installed.

However they go on to describe the safe method of installing both on the same partition which seems to work fine for most people as Steve and Jason have commented.

Do ensure you follow the instructions otherwise you could have problems using Motion 4 apparently.
