August 2, 2016 at 1:50 pm in reply to: Sony PXW-X70 Version 3 Firmware Update available.

I’m also running into issues upgrading to Ver 3. (on both PC & Mac). Downloaded software, ran exe (or dmg) got the screen that says plug in camera, on the camera got the Mass Storage screen connect, but that where I hit the wall. I did see loaded the PMHome folder (license stuff), but nothing else. I was able to unplug the camera w/out bricking anything.
I contacted Sony Services Plus, and they couldn’t come up w/ an answer, except to send it in.
Has anyone successfully upgraded to V3?

    Thanks,
    Jim

    David,
I agree that the 60Mbs is too low for the 4k, however, I did install that codec because the 100Mbs upgrade (coming in July– maybe) requires the 60Mbs be installed before the 100Mbs could be added (there is a charge for the 60Mbs, but the 100Mbs is supposed to be a free upgrade). When it comes in, I’ll let you know how is works out:-)

    Cheers,

    David,

As I recall the FS5 uses XAVC-L. The FS7 is using the XAVC i ? I haven’t had a chance to play w/ the “i” yet, but will be wary.
In the meantime, have you upgraded the X70 to the 4K, if so have you experienced any issues?

    Thanks,

    Jim

I’ve been using the Sony x70 now for about a year. That camera records in XAVC-L. I’ve had no issue editing this codec in cc2015. However, I’ve occasionally had some “unknown failures” when exporting h.264 via Media Encoder. I’ve found that cleaning the Cashe in both PP & ME seems to be the fix.

    Good Luck

March 27, 2016 at 6:27 pm in reply to: removing echo

I use both RX 5 Advanced Audio Editor (iZotope) & Zynaptiq UNVEIL to diminish echo/reverb. They are not cheap, but the do a reasonable job of reducing echo/reverb from a recording.

    Good luck,

I do a lot of on the road editing, so a MBP w/ max everything is very important. Also, while on the road, I use the LaCie 4TB (thunderbolt) rugged RAID drive. The above keeps thing moving pretty good.

(BTW)I’m awaiting the introduction of the Skylake processor to the MBP as my next laptop, which should also help move things along quickly.

    Good luck,

November 20, 2015 at 6:12 pm in reply to: Adobe’s Black Friday Deal – it paid off for me

    David,

Thanks for the update. However, I just got the run around from Adobe (sales/customer support/ sales/ non-working #/ hung up on), and ultimately was transferred to a number that no one answered and was subsequently hung up on.

So, I guess I had my portion of Adobe abuse for the day.

    Thanks anyway.

I think I figured it out. I nested the timeline, and went to the project panel to see if Multicam was available — it wasn’t. However, if I nested and Rt clicked w/in the timeline, multicam was available. So all is well.

October 15, 2015 at 2:05 pm in reply to: AVI on a MAC

To answer my own question; I was able to download (free) from the Apple store Smartconverter. This transcoded the pesky AVI to an h.264, and I’m off and editing.

February 12, 2015 at 2:33 am in reply to: HDMI Distribution

As a follow up, I’m learning a lot about EDID (Extended Display Identification Data), which may be the cause of the problem. There seems to be distribution amps that allow the EDID to be managed and adjust the output to be set by the first device the amp is plugged into. I suppose there are probably also dip switch type systems.

If and when I figure this out I’ll post.

In the meantime, it would be good to hear from anyone doing similar types of production — what might be best practice.

    Cheers,

    Jim
