In the same vein as the above question, with the new Mac laptops (Macbook Pro) having only an Express 3/4 card and not the slot that will fit the P2 card. If we what to dump the P2 card content to the new Mac laptops we will need some sort of Express 3/4,USB or Firewire I/O to Pcmcia card reader. Do such adapters exist, and if so, is the throughput speed fast enough for efficient workflow?

    Thanks,

I found the problem (operator error) in ver 2.1 there seem to be optional codecs (specifically DV50) that need to be added manually. It does say that in the release notes, but I didn’t notice it until I did a search and found the IO additional easy set ups folder which included the DV50 support, and backtracked to the manual install info.

    Thanks,

I am using ver 2.1. I do have show all checked and I see Beta YUV, Composite, S etc, but they are all 8 bit and 10 bit uncompressed. There is a DV 50 codec, but it is only for firewire capture not component. I opened up 4.5 on my laptop (which had an earlier driver for the AJA IO LA) and there several Betacam to DV50 codecs, but not on the Dual Quad FCP 5.0.3 w/ AJA 2.1.

    Any thoughts?

I’ve used the Aquos 12E1UW (speakers are on the bottom so it’s smaller and easier to pack) as part of an editing system for Candids video. I also have a blue chip (Sony) that I can look through and adjust the screen for color with SMPTE bars (Aquos is a non blue screen monitor.)

I found it just barely acceptable. I was able to be relatively confident in the color I was seeing, but the 640×480 resolution lacked the detail I felt I needed. (You could miss a lens flair if you weren

They presented the HVX200 in Chicago last week, and the question of inserting and downloading data from the P2 card into a Mac laptop came up. Some one plugged the P2 card into his Mac laptop & it did not show up. We were told that a driver was being developed to correct that, but at present you were not able to see the P2 card in the Mac.

I have found that the best video file types to use within PPT are wmv. You can download a windows media encoder (free) from Microsoft. They have a High Definition CBR codec at about 5mbs. Since you are coming off a Mac I would look into Flip4Mac software which is supposed to integrate with Compressor2.

    Good Luck

I recently purchased the BT LH 900 (the 1700’s little brother) to field monitor my SD. I’ve found that if I send an external source, like the monitor out of my D30 betacam, (which contains TC, TV safe etc) after a few minutes those elements burn into the picture screen! If I shoot for 5 or 10 minutes a screen without the gfx the burn goes away. There is a statment in the Op manuel that mentions this will happen(at no extra charge). I would be curious if the 1700 has the same design flaw.

The techs at Panny said they would look into this, but I havn’t heard back from them yet.

    Barry;

“JVC decks won’t play Sony tapes, so if you want to distribute 1080i or 1080p content and the customer only has JVC equipment, you’re dead in the water. Sony decks will play back JVC tapes via analog, so you could theoretically distribute 720p content that way.”

    According to the JVC brochure,
    “Multi-format output/Cross-converter function.
A sophisticated cross-converter function enables output not only of
    720p siginals, but also 1080i, 480/576p and 480/576i sigals… etc.”

So it would seem that the JVC deck will play back the Sony HDV.

Of course, we won’t know for sure until we actually see the deck.

I was wondering if folks have considered distributing in HDV? Although it has not been released yet, I believe the JVC deck (BR-HD50U)has serial deck(RS-422A interface) control for frame accurate editing? The input are composite, Y/C & 1394. Would it be possible to output DVC100 via FW to HDV?
