hey! hello!
i’m very sorry, but i missed your post. i was just experimenting with goggle’s new search engine, and it brought me to this post. seems to be working fine 😉
my site gets down from time to time. if it doesnt work, make sure to check in an hour or two. but if its down for a day or two, it means something serious happened and i’m running in circles screaming and shouting trying to fix the problem.
it already happened twice. and i almost lost all my data (including tutorials).
i wrote a post about it on my site.
thanks for taking interest in my tutorials.
stay tuned.
cheers

If you’re using CS3 you might also try the Puppet tool. Since you’re working with still as far as i understand you will only need to fake the alpha channel which puppet tool operates on.
this would be more complex if the footage was a video file, but i think that there would be a way of doing that.
good luck.

August 20, 2007 at 1:41 am in reply to: Creating the effect of a moving and receding engine glowif i understood you correctly there is a simple way of doing that. you have to track the engine. ideal situation would be if you’d have two engines. then you could trakc them both, and since the ship is moving away from the camera the distance between both engines will decrese. AE’s tracker can calculate the scale factor from that, and then you could apply this information to the filter you’re using.
if you could provide me with the files you’re using i’d me happy to do a videotutorial on this subject. feel free to contact me via my website. you can find the address in my footer in this post.
good luck

Like i said before, i tried AspectHD and Raylight, and both are far from batch converting and dragging into PPro.
After two days of experimenting i’ve found that if i change the name on my file to be AVI it seems to import into premiere, but without sound, and it causes it to throw some strange out of memory errors – and that doesnt happen to me at all even with huge projects.
the fact that i can import mxf with a changed name may be a result of installing some codecs and other clever software, but now since i no longer know what the hell is in my system its hard to tell.

correction.
i’ve downloaded MXF Desktop: https://www.snellwilcox.com/features/mxf/
i still cannont import MXF files into Premiere, but i was able to
import it via AVS (Avisynth script) and AVS Premiere plugin.
this works, but i’m afraid that this might not be as stable as it should be. and the sound is distorted (good thing i’m not interested in sound in this case)MXF Desktop comes with unwarper, but it seperates mxf to m2v and wav witch is not what i want. and the worse thing is that i have to upwarp each file one by one – no batch unwarping/conversion.
anyone has any other ideas?
thanks

unfortunately i didn’t find anything useful for me on that site you posted, but it sure is worth bookmarking, so thanks a lot!
the only thing that looked interesting was freeMXF.org site, but it seems that the software available on that site is for converting MPG to MXF, not the other way around.
DVRack = Ultra? didn’t you mean DVRack = OnLocation ?

Thanks a lot. It really means a lot to me.
My server died for a few days. It happened second time during last two months. I’m a bit worried about that. Good thing I’m also here on Cow, but the truth us that the most recent tutorials and infos are always on maltaannon.com (if it’s running) 🙂
I also like to see your comments on the site. That way i know that someone actually watches my tutorials, and that help people out. Thats why i make them.
The whole story with the server is described in my last post called “Hard times”. Read it, and you’ll know what was going on.
Thanks again. Cheers!

I am planning a tutorial on that subject soon, so stay tuned. You can do a 3D Match Moving in AE using some heavy expressions, but the best choice is to use 3rd party software. I will present few of them and tell you whats the difference between them, and compare them with each other in terms of using them with AE. Stay tuned.
