OK, I’ve got this model shot of a spaceship moving away from the camera. I know how to build an engine glow for the initial frame, but I don’t know how to have the glow reduce in size to match the receding model.
Is there a way to track the motion of the engines on the model and then have AE scale down the size of the engine glow to match? Or better yet, is there a tutorial up here already with a similar situation that I could learn from?

if i understood you correctly there is a simple way of doing that. you have to track the engine. ideal situation would be if you’d have two engines. then you could trakc them both, and since the ship is moving away from the camera the distance between both engines will decrese. AE’s tracker can calculate the scale factor from that, and then you could apply this information to the filter you’re using.

if you could provide me with the files you’re using i’d me happy to do a videotutorial on this subject. feel free to contact me via my website. you can find the address in my footer in this post.

    good luck
