  • i’m curious why a U.S.A. broadcast tv station would want a program delivered with a 23.98 timebase? We always deliver 29.97 drop frame.

4 point garbage mask would work well.

by “image” i mean what ever material you want to be seen inside the text letters…be it a still pic or video.
the bottom layer is the background that your filled text would appear on. you dont have to have a background…it was just an example.

real easy in Final Cut 7. bottom layer can, lets say, be color bars. next layer up is your text. next layer up is the image to fill in the text. select the top layer and right click to reveal drop down. then select composite mode and select travel matte alpha. your done.
if you want to add a drop shadow to your text then duplicate your text layer underneath your original text layer and add your drop shadow. piece of cake. and if you want to move the whole mess around the screen then select all your layers except for the background color bars layer and nest them.

  • it seems the shooters might have not known what they were doing. we shoot SD anamorphic when no HD camera is available and we can easily mix that with true HD clips. why an SD camera would be able to shoot letterbox is a mystery to me.

  • since you have standard def tape machines you probably also have a standard def tv. does the tape playback look this way when you look at it on a standard def tv.?
maybe it’s the way you captured the footage into final cut.
i took your pic and sized it and changed the aspect ratio and it looks normal fitting into my HD monitor.

you might be using very large pictures in your edit. re-size them down some and that will help. you might also go to Sequence,Settings,Video Processing, and tic on Always Render in RGB.

hummm….when we got our FCP 7 systems a few years ago the people here complained that there was no livetype. they were used to it in FCP 6. it’s in Motion tho. so…if i can get hold of the FCP 6 disks i can load livetype into FCP 7 ???
