Cut Out Text Effect
Posted by Garret Hernandez on February 14, 2012 at 6:48 pmTrying to figure out how to Make my text look cut out/ transparent so that the clip is visible through the text. Any ideas?
Here is an example in the lower text:

February 14, 2012 at 10:53 pmreal easy in Final Cut 7. bottom layer can, lets say, be color bars. next layer up is your text. next layer up is the image to fill in the text. select the top layer and right click to reveal drop down. then select composite mode and select travel matte alpha. your done.
if you want to add a drop shadow to your text then duplicate your text layer underneath your original text layer and add your drop shadow. piece of cake. and if you want to move the whole mess around the screen then select all your layers except for the background color bars layer and nest them. -

February 14, 2012 at 11:11 pmThank you so much.
A few questions:
By “image” do you mean the clip i want to fill the text
And what is the importance of the bottom layer, where you used “color bars” -

February 15, 2012 at 5:44 pmby “image” i mean what ever material you want to be seen inside the text letters…be it a still pic or video.
the bottom layer is the background that your filled text would appear on. you dont have to have a background…it was just an example. -

July 22, 2013 at 11:36 pmHi,
Is there a way to do this for a white background?
The method as described will result in a black background, right?
Thanks,
Nick.
