I’m probably doing something wrong. Everything is greyed out. For both Animation and ProRes4444, it’s greyed out and says no valid source found. I’m using Open under File menu.

    I meant 444, not 222.

Hey Roei. I’m trying to figure out what intermediate encoder to use. It seems I need one. Handbrake doesn’t like Animation.

Hey Tero. First order of business is iOS. Do you have a list of ones that are 222?

    Thanks.

You know though Dave, I actually don’t care much about file size. I just need it to be h.264. So, I’m actually looking for the least lossy version of h.264.

Thanks Tero. I think you are on the right track. I did read something along those lines and I will investigate more.

Do either of you, or anybody else for that matter, know the pros and cons of the different kinds of h.264 codecs?

Moscow State University does a well respected test of the different codecs every year. Six years ago, x264 was regarded as the best. But there are many others now and x264 is no longer the winner.

MAIN QUESTION MOVING FORWARD: WHAT H.264 IS BEST FOR STRAIGHT HORIZONTAL AND VERTICAL LINES???????????!!!!

I’m sorry guys. I found the problem. Yes, a screenshot would have helped. i somehow unclicked the aspect ratio lock and one of the presets was 1920×1280! So sorry to waste your time. Thanks for the help. To make it up to you, I did put a screenshot in my new post. 😀

    Hey Roei,

Thanks. In AME, you can make your own custom presets. But there is no way to set how your preset will deal with mismatching sized inputs and outputs. Once you load up something to render you can then apply your preset and you can then click on the yellow link and it opens the window where you can see a big version of what you are working with and there you can set Scale To Fill or whatever you want. For some reason, AME thinks there is a mismatch between my 1920×1080 lossless Animation codec and my lossy 1920×1080 h.264 codec and so if I don’t change anything, I get a big black box around my video in the h.264 codec. It’s kind of a pain to send screenshots as I don’t surf the web with my work machine. But I’m not sure what a screen shot would add.

    Hey Michael,

Thanks. But I’ve tried it every which way.

    Thanks Dave.

Why do they call the codec “Animation”?

Is it saving a my color hexes for each pixel? That’s really what I want.
