I’d choose Motion for this crop the video, add the bad film filter in Motion to the video. Put a yellow color underneath it, and crop the top and bottom to reveal what will appear to be a border top and bottom. There is a basic border you could use, but it will also put the color on either side. You could do it that way and just scale the picture up a bit to hide the sides off screen.

Try deleting renders, then re render… might fix you right up.
What was the codec used for the sequence and clip’s properties? ProRes or? There’s only about 150 flavors of HD out there… LOL.. might be a problem there too.

If it’s any consolation, I think it was said that this ‘feature’ was defeat-able in preferences… so they give you a choice to do it the old or new way.

The ProRes transfer is visually lossless. If you chose ProRes 4:2:2 you might get a bit better result.
When you then deliver the HDV (likely an MPEG-2 transport stream?), it will be of the best you can do. I don’t think there’s a problem with the workflow you’re considering…

Look in the right top corner of the Canvas window after you set in and out points… it’s the duration between them. If it’s not TC there, right click on the display there, to change it to hours, min, sec, frames.

You want to add EDIT points to the exported QT movie you then put into another sequence. and the cut points are what you want to add to the new sequence, right?
No easy way to do this I’m afraid.
You might copy the entire set of clips from that first sequence, then paste them to a higher track above the exported file, and add edits with the razor blade to match the length of the shots above…?

You can copy a clip, then right click on any other clip to select “Paste Attributes”. There you can add the filters etc you’ve used on the first clip. You could also simply copy the clip to the nested sequence. Open the nest, change it in any way, then it will be updated in the nested clip in your working sequence.

You can copy and paste any number of clips between sequences, does this help? i.e., copy the clips with their FX then paste them into another sequence.
