He’ll not be able to open your FCP 7 project files, so iChat Theatre might be just the ticket… or you can send him a QT movie he COULD open in FCP 6, make notes with markers or whatever and you’d be able to open that file on your FCP 7 machine.

If I’m reading right, you’ve a Power Mac 8 core machine. I have that same machine. Render times in FCP 7 will likely be cut by about 1/3 or 1/2 if you went to the 6 or 12 core… In the current software (FCP 7) the 12 core machine isn’t any faster than the 6 core because FCP 7 doesn’t address all those cores. But all the next gen software WILL address them. Probably be a screamer machine when the software that takes advantage of the cores is out there.

FCP X will likely make all this render smutz go away FWIW. It renders in the background while you work. Pretty cool I think.

Not sure what’s happening, but be sure the start/stop detection is turned on in the log and capture window in the Clip Settings tab. If it is and it still fails, try trashing your FCP preference files. If it still fails, then I’d just not use that tape any more..?

If you use paste attributes, can’t you get them all to take on the opacity and speed changes? It should ripple the sequence by default.
FCP 7 isn’t scriptable BTW. Don’t know about FCP X’s capability there.

QT has problems with interlaced video being displayed on a computer (progressive scan) monitor… if you’re movie is progressive, it’s minimized a lot.
QT also has a problem with anamorphic footage, but other than those caveats (and the fact that same video played on a video monitor or TV will not exhibit the same gammas) I don’t see a real problem with it.
However you shouldn’t have to recompress all the frames. The best export you can do is file/export/QT movie and click on self contained. This then doesn’t recompress the video resulting in a generation up from a recompressed video.

Sounds like some of the clips were corrupted during the transfer from PC to Mac to me… try it again? maybe upload them to an ftp site?

Does this happen with all filters or just the keyer? Might be a bug in the keyer’s code? I never use FCP for chroma keys… Motion does a better job if you don’t have AE or better.

I’m confused. The frame viewer is showing the clip with and without the filters. (same clip then, right?)
Re-describe the problem? The Canvas is showing the clip after color correction, right? (without the green sky).

Well for starters, the clip in the Viewer isn’t the sequence clip. No sprocket holes… if you double click the clip you’re working with in the sequence it should reflect the changes you’re making.
